Dad caught a 5lb 14oz chub and 7lb+ barbel from half way up. I blanked, this section could do with some bankside maintenance, swim clearance but lovely looking bit of river.

Arrived at 6.30am and walked first half of beat. Baited up three or four swims and fished them in rotation during first three hours.
River looked to be in perfect condition, after rain, however, the first part of the morning produced no bites. We walked the remainder of the three quarters of a mile beat, and decided on fishing all remaining swims for half to three quarters of an hour. (there were literally only six swims that could be remotely described as accessible).
Late morning I accessed a swim via a stile that could only be described as hairy. This swim almost uniquely had cover and heavy vegetation both up and downstream. After half an hour bites started coming, gentle at first and eventually violent. The result was a 7lb plus Barbel. Finicky bites continued until around lunchtime I hooked another good fish which turned out to be a Chub of 5lb.
We spent the afternoon re tracing our steps and exploring the first section of the beat for more swims with better cover. There were no more bites but the insight is worth noting.

We saw a good number of rising fish both Chub Barbel & Salmon, but all were adjacent to heavy tree cover. Accessing these fish was extremely difficult, because the limited number of stiles were generally in open water away from the cover.
If the land owner could be encouraged to install 6 or 8 rubber barbwire covers that allowed access to more of the sheltered sections of bank, (across the fence line) then I am confident more productive fishing would ensue in the future.
This beat is located in superb countryside with an abundance of wildlife. It is tranquil place with good road access and good safe parking.

A fine stretch of river. Very deep and slow so looked like pike territory. Using a mixture of deadbaits and lures we managed a few fish, the biggest being 19lbs. A good day!

Fished towards the bottom end of the beat, river low and like a still pond so expectations werent too high.
Unfortunately not a bite all day but a very nice beat with a number of easy accessable swims after a brief walk from the parking area.

Both blanked, not even Chub knocks. Hot and sunny and river more like a lake with very little flow.
Beat is difficult with only a couple of fishable swims.

No bites all day. The water very slow in this section and although some swims had been cleared, quite difficult to fish comfortably - so didn't look too promising from the start. Gave up after 7hrs. Some canoeists informed us of some illegal nets a few hundred yards upstream containing one Salmon, Barbel and some Trout. EA were informed and were on the case later in the afternoon. We've had better days
