The river looked perfect, a couple of feet up and a little colour but it turned out to be a tough day in bright conditions. I managed a single nice Chub from above a far bank tree during the day while working my way up the stretch. While chatting to the guys on the lower stretch (who also struggled) while getting some supplies from the car, I decided to bait up a couple of swims and wait until the last couple of hours of daylight. This resulted in two nice Barbel in two casts from the tree stump swim an hour before dusk. The bigger fish weighed 7lb 13oz and the smaller one I estimate at about 4lb but returned without weighing. One fish had Otter damage to it's tail, which could explain the lack of activity during the day. All fish caught on the pellet feeder with Sausage Sizzle boilies over a bed of hemp, pellet and crushed boilie.

I have not visited this reach before, quite lovely. Down for three days so this was more of a recce than a serious session. Plenty of swims but overall it seemed a bit featureless. Fished feeder & float, but would have preferred to be able to wade. This river always leaves you with a smile though.

A very nice day on another lovely stretch of the Wye ... the fishing was very slow, perhaps to be expected after a very sharp frost overnight . A very enjoyable day all the same..thank you Wuf

I had a very enjoyable day even though I didn't catch my intended quarry, Barbel. Plenty of small fish caught on float tackle including six small Chub. Stunning stretch of river and a great day out.
