Had this lovely stretch of water all to myself - plenty of fish moving including Salmon leaping but no sign of the barbel I was hoping for. This was my first try of the Wye for barbel but this stretch didn't strike me as typical barbel water, being very deep and even-paced throughout. A glorious place to start the learning process though and I did have a very nice 4lb+ Chub on meat to show for my efforts. Some hard work has been put in here to give good access to the swims but I think they will be more productive for the other species rather than barbel - I would love to give it a go with the float rod another time. Now looking forward to trying some of the other stretches above Hereford (the limit of my range for a day's fishing) for that first Wye barbel.

A difficult day in hot, bright conditions. I managed 3 Chub and lost another at around dusk.

Nice beat with lots of bankside features, great parking and decent access. There is a barbed wire fence running along the river but there are stiles installed at regular intervals to allow you to climb over and steps cut into the riverbank.
River was up a couple of feet and coloured, but not pushing through too hard. I had a mint condition 6 1/2 pound Barbel within minutes of the first cast in my second swim, and a Chub followed by a lost fish from further upstream. Nice to end the season with my first Barbel since October, will be back in the summer.

Fished over two days - river dropped significantly over night. Quite tricky to fish and I only had two chub - though lots of knocks. Too early for the barbel I think. Lovely quiet days, as ever with the Wye and Usk.
2 chub - 1lb and 4lb.

River low and clear for time of year. A few chub managed from extreme upper limit of beat.

Blanked! I lost a fish at the net but hard going rained all day and lots of leaves coming down which made things difficult.
The new sign on car parking space says lower canon bridge not upper could be very confusing if its first time fishing this stretch!

Began fishing 8.30am, river in good nick, nice colour & height, weather warm but cloudy. Fishing very slow, caught 1 barbel all day. Tried different baits, tactics & fished into the evening which usually turns up a few fish but nought!

4 barbel to 7.09. Spent the afternoon trying for chub but I could find none. Can't move around much on this stretch as in most places you are too high above the river to land a fish. Quite tricky really - not for people with any mobility issues. There used to be stages but no more...

Only fished half a day as I got delayed. Surprised to find the river had dropped a yard in just over a week. 3 barbel to 7.02
