River rising and charging through. Difficult conditions with lots of leaves making holding bottom difficult.

There was a few feet of water running through today but with Monty's expertise & sound advice we were all able to fish with more than a fighting chance. Unfortunately the barbel were not playing ball; I think that may have been down to our tactics & inexperience. The water was actually very clear.
Two of the chub were over the 5lb. mark & caught in faster water. Between the showers when the sun shone the colours on the leaves were a picture. With regular flocks of fieldfares flying over ,the sun catching the silver under their wings was a memorable sight. The temperature dropped quite rapidly late afternoon.
Another great day on the Wye with friends from far & wide. Probably didn't put as much fishing effort in as we should have... but you've got to catch up haven't you whilst the Kelly's kettle is brewing.
Thanks for the care & advice Monty (& Paul). And thanks once again WUF.

Started in 'the elms' field but nothing doing. Moved back over stile and tried a couple of swims at the top. 1 barbel and lost one at the net on the float - gutted. Always enjoy this lovely fishery.

Lovely beat, well maintained by the owner. Monty came down to the river to offer advice which was gratefully received as we had not fished this beat before - he even gave us some bait, and frequently baits up the swims himself even though he doesn’t fish it except for salmon. Lovely guy. Lots of swims to fish .. the barbel were both around 7 lb. we will be back .. thanks Monty and W & U.
