What a pleasure it was to be addressed by name when meeting Monty and his team on the bank at the most well maintained fishery I have seen on the Wye. It was a pleasure to meet such a gentleman. Sorry that I cannot send the promised photo(phone ran out of charge) of Monty's friend who cut convenient steps to my swim and strimmed the path to it! A bit different to Perryhill I suspect.
River a foot on and looking good. Decided to float fish the fast water and had a lovely day on float fished pellet(carp) and meat feeding hemp and pellet for 8 barbel and a good chub. All good fish to 7-12-0 and immaculate condition- all swimming away strongly after recovery. Mick and Pete fished slower water and had 5 barbel. I think you needed fast water and weed to do well here today. It also looked tough for the anglers opposite on Fownhope 5. I really thought the float and pellet would do well on the chub but we only caught one - strange.

River at a good summer height with a tinge of colour. Weather cool with variable cloud. This was my first visit to this beat and I walked the lower section before settling down to fish in the faster water at the bottom end at around 15.00. I had a bite within 30 seconds on my first cast, which resulted in a barbel of around 5.5 lbs. I had a decent chub a couple of casts later and looked forward to filling my boots. However, the swim then went completely dead. I thought the fishing would improve in the evening, so I persevered, losing several rigs in the process. No joy so I moved to a deeper swim upstream, where I had just one more barbel, about the same size as the first, and three smallish chub. Overall a disappointing day, but that's how it goes sometimes.

As ever helpful advice from Monty. We block booked this beat for 4 of us. A lot of work has gone into making this beat very accessible. The usual tactics used pellets and feeder. Largest barbel just under 7.
Great days fishing.

A good day out. Landed 10 barbel ranging from 5lb to about 9 lb. Had to work for it though by moving around, avoiding the tackle-hungry snags (many) and trying different baits. The usual pellet-feeder combo was the winner. The swims are easily accessible and comfortable. river conditions were ideal with good flow and a bit of colour. The bites, when they came (and I sometimes had to wait 30-40 minutes) were spectacular. I could have been forgiven for thinking I had hooked a passing car ! and twice caught the rod butt in mid-air . Thank goodness I didn't nod off.....

Moved around a lot - caught from several different spots on a variety of baits fished with feeders. Best fish just under 8lb, several small chub,. Good to see Monty (the bailiff) and friends doing swim work. Didn't seem to be a lot of flow in the river but where we could find flow we found fish.
Good day out, will be back to this stretch for sure.

A great day on Holme Lacy 4, plenty of flow and some water coming through on the downstream swims. Fished well all day albeit being bright & sunny most of the day. Plenty of bites, both at bubbles and the sunken willow, rolling meat took barbel to over 12lb at "bubbles", preceded by a Chub over 5lb, another Chub and another barbel followed that but only half the size. Hooked into something huge in this swim, probably another double. At the "sunken willow" another Barbel around 8lb, plus a chunking chub, also bagged an eel here !!!! Great Day very pleased to meet Robin who came to say hello on his way home & Monty and his friend who gave up his seat in the 4x4 to get me back to the Church.

Incessant rain, very heavy at times, driven by strong winds greeted us on arrival, and remained with us for 7 hours until mid evening, at which point the wind ceased but rain continued on and off. Oh and it was cool too - 14 degrees max.!
We searched several areas along the entire stretch for feeding fish. Our mobile approach meant no umbrellas and by 7.30pm D was wet through, his waterproofs having let him down. I was luckier with my Gore-Tex keeping me dry so was ready when some fish finally put in an appearance about 8.00pm. I managed to coax D back out of a warm car on the strength of a couple of barbel and he had the last laugh with one of 10lb 11oz.
I can only assume the heavy rain and sharp drop in temperature made for such a difficult day.

Good day on river, met monty and his team of helpers who were repairing platforms. This is a brilliantly looked after beat and a credit to the owners. I caught 7 barbel and 1 chub and David caught 10 barbel and 8 chub.
