Wow what a great beat this is and a real pleasure to meet Monty who took the time to make us welcomed and give us a guided tour of the fishery in his car. A very well kept beat with plenty of swims to try and after a real struggle at middle hill court the previous day not only with the fishing but also just to get anywhere near the river this was a pleasure to fish.
A special thank you to Monty who even returned later in the afternoon when he noticed I'd left my sunglasses in the front of
his car. Top man
As for the fishing most of my fish were caught on the float including the barbel . Wicked

With clear blue skies and temperatures in excess of 30℃ it was a struggle, had a few chub early morning and then returned for a evening session to take more chub and a lone eel.

A beautifully maintained stretch of the Wye with many accessible swims throughout. started on the lower section near the bend although the amount of salmon showing led to a move to the fast water at the end of the beat rolling meat resulting in a stunning chub of 5lb 8oz..
A move to the middle beat and a change to wobbling deadbaits proved fruitless.. ended up sitting it out on the pellet feeder with barbel to 81b 4oz coming regularly throughout the mid afternoon period.
The Elms is a real credit to the members who look after it. Many thanks to all concerned for enabling access to such an outstanding stretch of the River Wye.

There were supposed to be two of us fishing but my partner had to drop out having contracted shingles the previous week, so I ended up with the beat to myself - shame, never mind! I met Monty who was very helpful, driving me along the river and pointing out the swims, this being my first trip to this beat. Having fished seven other W&UF beats, this was, in my opinion, the nicest, most varied best managed and most accessible for coarse anglers. Thank you Monty - other owners (yes you too HRH) take note.
I fished just for the afternoon and tried a couple of swims. Ended up with 5 barbel to about 8lb and 4 chub including one that was certainly pushing 5 lbs. In the sunny conditions, most of the action predictably came in the last hour of daylight. A nice final Wye trip for 2016.

Surprisingly high water with weed coming through made it quite difficult fishing but only to be expected in October. In fact the weather remained mild and after an early barbel I thought I would be in for a bumper day. I moved swims a few times but returned to my earlier spot and the fish started to feed after mid afternoon.
A lovely day on a superb beat
