Wilderness fishing at its best.

Llyn Hir is the smallest of the famous Teifi Pools found north east of Tregaron near the source of the river Teifi. This spring fed lake is fly fishing only and holds a good head of truly wild brown trout. Tradition has it that the fish in Llyn Hir were far tastier that those held in the other lakes. Summer offers the best fishing, particularly in the evening after the Coch a Bonddu bonanza, which bring the bigger trout into good condition. It is an excellent dry fly fishery but the crystal clear waters require a stealthy approach. The countryside here is simply stunning and there are fewer more remote places in Wales.

Vehicle access to this remote mountain lake is excellent, being able to park on the track close to the water’s edge for part of the bank length. Although the track approaching the lake is in good order, anglers must proceed with caution. A 4x4 might be required in adverse conditions. This lake is extremely remote. Exclusivity is not guaranteed but your chances of bumping into another angler are small.

A day ticket here also covers other Tregaron AA waters for you to roam around in one day.

Llyn Berwyn is found to the east of Tregaron. This 40 acre lake is fly fishing only and holds a good head of truly wild brown trout averaging around a pound but fish of several pounds are possible. It has also been lightly stocked with trout over the years to supplement the wild population. The lake is limed up to four times a year and the surrounding coniferous woodland is slowly being replaced by deciduous trees. The countryside here is simply stunning and there are fewer more remote places in Wales.
Vehicle access to this remote mountain lake is excellent being able to drive right up to the parking area at the water’s edge.

There is a locked gate to this fishery. Instructions on where to collect the key are given with the directions once a booking is made but please be aware that a cash deposit is required(£10.00 in 2014).

Other fisheries available on this ticket include main River Teifi and Camddwr beats, offering some of the best wild brown trout fishing in Wales and the UK as well as excellent sea trout and salmon opportunities in the second half of the season. Set in the stunningly picturesque upper reaches of the Teifi Valley, upstream of Lampeter, Tregaron Angling Association owns and manages a variety of quality wild brown trout fishing in the head waters of the River Teifi. The available waters include around 17 miles of the Teifi split between 8 beats varying in length from 0.75 miles to 3.5 miles and 7 miles of remote wilderness fishing on the River Camddwr in the Cambrian Mountains.

Also included on this ticket are Llyn Egnant & Llyn Teifi. These lakes are fly fishing only and hold a good head of truly wild brown trout. The countryside here is simply stunning and there are fewer more remote places in Wales. Wilderness fishing at its best.
