River temperature increased from a week ago by 3 degrees to 16 degrees c. Evening rise before on the Saturday night saw prolific sedge hatch with trout and grayling feeding heavily. Morning Fishing very slow possibly due to fish feeding heavily the night before and increase in water temperature. Fish caught were not in the fast glides but dropping back into the runs. Heavy bugs the order of the day on French leader and method. Dry fly switched on late afternoon as previous day with trout rising first followed by grayling an hour later. Dry fly was method required late afternoon - out fished French leader 2:1. Flies required for dry were large CDC olive patterns bigger the better seemed to work. Fish moving into the heads of the pools as the day progressed. Mixed bag of trout and grayling - 2 grayling over 18” with all trout in the half to three quarter pound range. No lumpers today.
Cheers Shaun for another fantastic day on Craig Lyn

This may be my favourite beat on the Wye so far. It’s just got such a diversity of water.
Unfortunately I fished like a complete muppet and didn’t do the water any justice. Maybe it was my reptile brain kicking in as wading was...challenging , there was enough colour after recent rains that once past my knees I couldn’t clearly see the bottom and spent most of my energy avoiding falling: I failed there too falling three times. I had one brief 30 min spell where I fished ok and most of the fish came in this small window including two nice trout measuring 14 and 15 inches. With water temps at 15.1 degrees they were in great shape.
With hindsight I’d have fished this beat in the afternoon as the river was fining down quickly. By early afternoon when I left wading was much easier.
The fishing gods did grace me with my best Grayling in 10 years. A fat 16 plus-a-tad incher that took as I was trying not to fall over, again, and not paying the slightest attention to my line.
I’ll definitely be back to this stunning beat.

I invariably come away from Craig Llyn thinking I should have caught more than I did. Today was no exception. An enigma, with pools and runs that scream "fish" at you failing to produce. I covered a lot of water today, and used 3 methods - nymph, duo and dry - but only caught spasmodically. Each method equally successful (or should that be unsuccessful?). Most of the fish came from faster, shallow (and, sometimes, very shallow) water. On the plus side, the Grayling were a good size. Conditions were not ideal - ie a low clear river on a bright day - but other Wye beats have produced for me under these conditions. However, other anglers do well here; so perhaps the problem lies with the thing at the thick end of the rod

What a difference a day makes, 12 degrees cooler and the wind blowing a bit of a hoolie, nearly lost the hat more than once! A bit of welcome rain too.

Struggled a bit today and in hindsight, with nothing moving on top, I should have maybe swapped over to nymphs but wanted to persevere with the search dry as so far it seems the trout spend more time in the air than water when taken off the top . Huge fun ...

Its going to take me a time to suss this amazing beat out but I know I will enjoy every moment of it, providing I don't fall over! The rocks are very slippery now. Brought up a very considerable lump of a trout to a leggy foam beetle at the fast run in to Penlanole pool. Think he sussed out the game as couldnt get any further interest but his cards marked for sure. Digits crossed for the next visit.

The one trout netted would have gone a good pound I'm sure and in spanking condition so very pleased with that .

A quick couple of hours session on an evening ticket and a nice couple of trout . Nothing doing in the pacier water but some a very good number sipping away on something tiny in the very slow glide at lower craig lyn pool . Could have been plenty more in the net I'm sure if I could have got my act together sooner ! A very tiny para Adams got them interested in the end .

NJ & JJ Cwmbran
First time back to Craig-Llyn for a long while, struggled all morning picking up one small brown plus a few takes. Around lunchtime we bumped into a gentleman and his wife who promptly set about giving us a lesson in the art of river fishing. What followed for us was incredible. With a change of setup and the correct flies we were catching fish almost every other cast. Many many thanks to Shaun for his time and expert advise. In an hour after lunch we caught eleven grayling, one of which measured 21inches (photo to follow) great day be back soon.
