River came up slightly the previous afternoon / evening and although was dropping slowly remained slightly coloured. Some fly life - mainly a trickle of yellow may duns, medium olives and even the odd mayfly. Rising fish hard to find and very sporadic. Managed two modest fish on emerger pattern late in the day.

The place is not the best on the looking side, banks full of rubs carried over by the previous spates and death sheep anging , smell as well unpleasant, but is holding some really good size trouts spooky and spoiled.
Catch two around fifteen sixteen inches on a 20 hook size emergers

First time on the river for many years - nice to be back! Abundant trout activity in the evening, all rather quiet during the afternoon. Missed 2 takes on the dry fly. Good beat with excellent vehicle access along the bank. Plenty of water variety here: too much to cover in a single day. Recommended.

Strong downstream breeze with frequent gusts made casting very difficult. No fish caught. Rises seen in Finns Hole.

Downstream gusting wind conditions and overcast skies. 1 @ 31cm nose to tail caught in Ashtree pool using caddis type dry fly. Released safely. Second hooked @ Rhelds Flats - got away safely. Several fish rising along the flats stretch mid afternoon.
Really enjoyed this location. Had great telephone service from the Fishing Passport staff when I called with a question, and found booking this beat online really straightforward.

The river was carrying a lot of colour but thankfully the forecast downpour didn’t materialise, though the wind was nasty at times. An excellent debut outing on this wonderful beat. Seven on dry fly (best 16” on a DHE) and five on nymph (Duracell).

Nothing could be tempted with dry fly, so all fish taken on weighted nymphs fished through the faster water. Best to about 2lbs - all safely returned.

1 x 16" trout caught nymphing, lost 3 more. A few fish were rising in the morning but not to my dry fly.
