Today was my first trip to the Wye. I didn’t get the barbel I was hoping for but had three cracking chub from the swim just upstream of the island. Before that I had fished for 5 hours without a touch in the boat pool, but after moving down stream I got bites straight away. All the fish were on ground bait feeder with luncheon meat on the hook. Lost more tackle than on any other course fishing trip I have been on! But a good day and I will be back.

River very low and clear, tried towards the bottom end with various methods, no real sign of fish until 7:30pm. Had to leave at 8pm. Cheque book and pen for me.

River quite low although quite nice colour, very crisp breeze at times, thought be a good day, although we thought it would be hard,it was ! Chucked the kitchen sink at it,bait wise and different areas but to no avail,no fish not even a chub although had two tiny minnows stuck in the feeder mesh! hey but that’s fishing, other than that a nice looked forward to day out on the Wye ready to return again soon

Once again my long planned day's fishing spoiled by people wading then swimming on the opposite bank. As if that wasn't enough they swam across the river through the bottom end of my swim to hide in the bushes and get up to what can only be described as carnal activities. I will not return to Home fishery in the future as the risk of swimmers / canoeists disrespecting my use of the river is to great. Fishing wise I lost count of the sub 1lb Barbel and Chub I caught on pellet and meat. I did manage one 4lb Chub on float fished bread before my swim was disturbed and one 5lb Barbel on pellet at twilight.

Fished watercross stretch. Bait was hair-rigged luncheon meat, second cast having changed from feeder to bomb. Great fishery. Look forward to returning.

Feeder plus pellets using running rigs. River flowing fairly gently. Ideal conditions really. Caught at the pump station pool, the island rapid and at Wood Crib.
