My first visit to this beat. Very low (Cilmery gauge 0.22) and fish understandably spooky. Quite windy for a change and a lot of leaves coming down. Grayling all 9"-11", 4 on dry and 6 on nymphs. Finished off with two trout, one respectable at 14" which gave me something to net. Look forward to fishing it again.

Wonderful day on the water. A still beautiful autumn day reaching 21 degrees C at 1pm. Exceptionally low water, but a good hatch of upwinged mayflies and other small chironomids. Grayling rising all day. 30 grayling and 10 trout caught between us including three 2lb grayling and a 1.5lb brown trout. Kingfishers, autumn leaves and a pleasure to be alive in the autumn!

A good day with most fish coming to various dry patterns. Somewhat frustrating as many of the fish were rising to a large fall of aphids & proved difficult to tempt & even more difficult to hook!

First time on the beat, directions good, parking easy, a beautiful beat. Generally well maintained, be useful to mark the paths on the beat map to show access points, however most of river wadeable. Odd branch needs a trim to get best out of some pools, please return my flies if this is done lol.
Caught fish in the main pools on heavy nymph, best brown on dry in a shallow pool tail, but stealth essential to catch these.
Definitely return.

The water was low and clear, but there were a few Olives, Caddis and small stoneflies hatching. Most of the fish came to nymphs. The Graying were in good condition, the best of about 1 1/2 pound, most around 3/4 pound the trout were all small 6"ers.

Superb spot. However, I had difficulty finding the beat. Caught 4 small grayling although a very large fish was hooked but the inevitable happened and it got away!! All grayling caught on tungsten nymphs. No rises.

Very hot and bright conditions. Fished the lower sections above the chapel. Tried all kinds of methods and only caught a couple of small salmon parr.

Bright conditions with light downstream wind. Lots of BWOs and sedges in the afternoon. Only fish showing were the salmon parr. Managed to tease out a small trout and grayling from the fast water just below the bench at the top of the beat on weighted GRHE.

Decided to celebrate the beginning of September with a trip to CLG, where the beat was its usual lovely late summer self and the water clear with the level ideal at a tad less than 0.5m. on the Cilmery guage. A perfect day weather-wise as well: some sun, some cloud, some breeze, some still conditions. Very little fly at any time - morning, afternoon and early evening - but there were a couple of significant rises around midday and mid-afternoon, with the odd fish showing in between. Tried spiders, nymphs and emergers and ended up with 27 grayling and five trout. None of the trout exceeded ten inches and most of the grayling were 8-10 inches but a few larger fish showed up as well - two 16" at about 1.5lb, one 15", two 14" and two 12" ladies obligingly took the emergers. Most fish were taken with a small hare's ear emerger, grayling steel blue or UB Duck's Dun, all flies tempting both rising and non-rising fish. The rest came to a skinny pink nymph and red tag spider. A lovely day marred only by a small ceremonial dip! At least the water wasn't too cold and the belt kept the nether regions dry - plans to fish the evening however were left for another day!

A good day on the river and friendly advice from Charlie at the beat. The grayling, at 1/4lb and 3/4lb were taken on Goldhead hares ear nymph and the WBT taken on mixture of dry fly and nymph. Largest WBT about 1lb and 2 other smaller ones. All fish returned to water. A good beat which we will return.
