Beautiful day, but fishing was hard. Despite the odd hatch around lunchtime, no sign of any fish rising. In fact no evidence of any trout at all. One small grayling, unaware that the season was over, fell to large weighted nymph hard on the bottom of a deep pool. The other catch a small salmon parr. Memorable bacon sandwiches and cardamom chicken curry for lunch though!!

River looking good with gin clear water. Nice, warm day but surprisingly no activity and no signs of rising fish. Caught a nice trout on streamer and a small grayling on a dry March Brown.

Beautiful day to be back out on the rivers. With hope of some warm sun and lower levels we expected to see a few fish moving about. We saw nothing rise all day but we did manage to catch. All fish came to PTNs fished through reasonably fast water. One of the trout was well over 3lbs and ended up straightening the hook! Makes a real change to fly fish this water - it takes on a whole new dimension over trotting a float. All fish returned.

Excellent conditions and weather, trotting maggots and fly fishing. Both methods successful, best fish was a grayling of 2lb 6ozs. Contact numbers very helpful, gave us great advice, phoned a river report on the morning of our visit and met us at the parking spot. Perfect! Thank you, will visit again.

Our first trip to the river of 2014 thanks to the dire conditions since December. 13 fish to the net between the three of us and we just love this beat.
Conditions weren't quite the best but after starving ourselves of fishing we jumped at the chance thanks to the break in the weather.
A great day with great fishing buddies and on a great river.

The Irfon was very low and clear (around 0.24m on the Cilmery gauge) and the weather was unseasonably mild for this time of year (hovering around 10 C). I had decided to fish long trotting with maggots, starting in the pool just upstream of the church and below the ford. I couldn't tempt anything here so I moved up through the copse and fished the glide in the meadow above. It was around 1pm by this time and a few fish were rising to large terrestrials that were blowing in off the field. I decreased the float depth and switched to a single maggot and this immediately sparked short-term interest from the grayling, catching one at 14" and another at 17" (a thick-set fish estimated at 1.5-1.75lb).
Walking back to the car I had a last ditch attempt below the church in the glide above the riffles. There were a few small fish rising and was pleased to see that, when I caught one, they were grayling parr - a good indicator for the health of the river.
I noticed on the joining instructions that the new owner is looking for feedback on improving access. My only comments would be to improve the hard standing for the parking areas, and to see if anything could be done to by-pass the boggy part of the path mid-way through the copse. Other than that, access is excellent here.
