34 x grayling 11-18 inches, long trotting with centre pin. Raw weather with snow on the hills and the odd flake falling, but the river was in nice condition and almost too clear. Proper cold grayling conditions, in fact, with the fish packed in tightly together, but it was just warm enough to trot properly. There is the world of difference between plus one degree, when the tackle works as it is designed to do, and minus one degree, when the rod locks up with ice. Lovely fish on the Irfon today, most of them over 15 inches, plenty at 16 inches, several at 17 inches, one at 18 inches. A very nice day's sport, but it was good to get back to the car and hot coffee.

No Grayling caught on a bitterly cold and wet 3 hour afternoon session, but 3 x WBT and 1 salmon parr caught on trotted maggot. River was clear, but rising slightly.
Didn't really have time to search out the Grayling and a longer session would have done more justice to the beat.

A better day at Cefnllysgwynne. Levels were good, and grayling showed around the warmer hours of the day from a number of locations. Between the three anglers, four grayling and one trout were landed, with another four missed.

Quite a tough day with blustery downstream winds making any method other than short-line nymphing a no-go. Worked the water fairly hard throughout the day and only managed to connect with one fish. Still, there's always next time!

A bit blustery but by no means unpleasant. Alas no fish moving that I could detect and so a blank day. For the record I used a weighted nymph but no takes. Nice river with easy access. I will try again soon.

A pretty damp and dreary day on the Irfon, and the fishing was hard going, picking off odd fish here and there, in what was a very good river level. I tried all morning with the fly rod with various bugs to no avail. Fish were starting to show on the surface so I changed to dry fly, had a couple of near misses and that was that, lunch. Then joined Rudi with the trotting rod which was a good move. The day's total 22 Grayling, 2 OSBT, 2 Chublets, and for myself, in total disbelief, a whopper of a rainbow @ 22" approx three and a half pounds which I first thought was a salmon. After a long fight all over the river it finally came to the net and it didn't fit very well in the bow net. The fish was in superb condition, thick set and beautiful fin's. After a little chat with the wuf team, it is apparently an escapee from nearby ponds. Another good day.

A great but chilly day at Cefnllysgwynne, with 13 fish to the net(consisting of ten grayling and three trout) and with a couple of missed takes. Ten of these fish fell to nymphs, with two even opting to rise for a dry. Fantastic!
Mostly all small fish pushing the 11" barrier but with one grayling weighing in at just under 1.5lb.

A cold day with a mixture of cloud and winter sunshine. Water levels well down and very little colour. Approx 10 grayling and 1 brownie all caught czech nymphing. Half the fish were graylets but the other half all just over the pound mark. Caught fish from 3 areas. Bend just above the church, deeper pool just above weir and the pool a little further upstream just above the rapids.

A very good result despite being so cold that rod rings were iced up preventing free running line thus hindering trotting. In total we caught 27 grayling between 2 rods from several spots. There were a few fish around 2 lbs and one going to 2.5 lbs. If we were able to present bait trotting properly who knows what the final total would have been? A great days fishing.

I fished this beat both on Friday 13th and Sun 15th after getting washed off numerous times last year. As the conditions were perfect I thought I would take advantage.
On the Friday I had between 15-20 Grayling. Fish size was from about 1/2 pound up to one clunker which was over two pound.
Most fish were caught down deep on a Pink Shrimp pattern.
The Sunday was pretty much a repeat of the Friday but with only about 10 fish caught with the biggest about a 1 1/4. I did catch a lovely out of season brownie which was about two pound in a run I had never fish before. I'll be back in summer to find out if it's still there!
Had a interesting finish to the day as a fellow fisherman on the beat had lost his car keys. After trying to find them in the dark and searching nearby fields they were finally found in his fishing jacket by his guide. A good ending on a lovely day spent by the river.
