Ended up having to cancel the trip due to rain experienced leading up to the Wednesday, however I'm aiming to be back next week. A stunning beat!

A fantastic day was had by all. 3 rods totaled 21 fish, 6 wbt and 15 grayling. All taken on nymph patterns. Many thanks to the W&U foundation and all the staff for their help. We shall all be back as soon as work and wives permit. Best regards.

Heavy rain overnight put 18" of dirty water into the river. Despite a valiant effort by all, we couldn't muster a bite between us.

5 Grayling and 2 Brownies, plus the leviathan that "got away" - great day, even though the weather was grey and wet. Falch i ddweud bod tim Cymru wedi ennill cystadleuaeth "The Grayling Cup" - better luck next year to my fellow anglers who came all the way from Derbyshire and The Scottish Borders today. We will be back next year. Yn y cyfamser mae'r cwpan grayling yn sefyll ar fy silff tan y flwyddyn hon...ie ie ie!

A great days fishing with conditions perfect. We caught over 30 grayling mostly of good size, around the pound mark with a few fish 1.5 to 2 pounds. All fish fell to trotted maggot under 7 AA clear avon floats fished with centrepins in realatively fast water along the upper half of the beat. This was our first visit to the Irfon and what a fantastic river it is. We will be back as soon as possible. Many thanks to the WUF for a superb days sport.

Finally got to fish the Irfon after being washed off a few weeks ago. The river was much lower than when I last saw it and just a bit of colour, as well as a lot of leaves.
I caught and returned 9 fish in total, 4 grayling and 5 trout. The grayling came to nymphs, either a hot spot czech nymph or a copper headed grey nymph. The fish were in splendid condition, bright silver and with plenty of fight and ranged from 1/2 a pound up to about 1 1/4 lb. They were mainly caught in faster flowing water with the flies well down.

The trout were all 6-8oz and some came enthusiastically to a dry Adams while the remainder were caught whilst nymphing. Not much fly on the water and I didn't see many grayling rises so just fished likely spots. I also saw a large and very coloured salmon at the lower end of the beat, as it porpoised twice as it cruised around the pool.

This is a great stretch of river with plenty of interest in terms of the type of water to fish. Its not always easy to wade to where you want to be, but that just adds to the fascination.
