A very pleasant day was had on this quiet stretch of the River Lugg. The water was quite low, only finding any depth in the bends. No sign of any Trout but caught 4 very nice Grayling to about 1.5lbs and numerous 3-4inch tiddlers on a size 16 tungsten head pink PTN. Lots of fry shoaling in the shallows keeping the Kingfisher busy.

Warm wet day. Water a little coloured presumably from recent rain. Plenty of fly life amongst the alders but no rise. Two small 7" trout taken on dun and GRHE (sinking by this time in the almost incessant light rain). River bottom smothered everywhere in algae growth - not healthy - nitrates?. Himalayan balsam everywhere; saw 1 dipper, wagtail and a hare. Lovely area but not supporting the amount of wildlife I would expect - nature in retreat again.

Surprised to find so much colour in the river when I arrived de bonne heure this morning (and this comes from a man who spent much of the previous afternoon looking at the Byton webcam and the rainfall map for the Radnor Forest). A chat with the occupant of the cottage as I was packing up, after a very pleasant day weatherwise, revealed that there had been unforcast heavy rain overnight. Grayling, the fish I most associate with Lyepole at this time of year, did not really show; mind you, the three I did catch were all good fish (ie 1lb plus). In contrast, the Trout were really having it, taking both nymph and spider with alacrity. Probably a day too soon?

Three fish taken on a black spider just under the surface, one on a dawl bach. River conditions fairly good probably would benefit from a bit more water if that has to be said. Had a loverly day on this very scenic beat. It is my first time out on one of your beats. I am looking forward to my next. Thanks for all your help.

Lovely quiet river, but limited access down to the river. Fish present. I shall be returning, but perhaps earlier in the season when the banks have less vegetation.

Fished this as part of LAFA's Tenkara day on 5th July. There were four of us on this beat and I saw the other chaps heading upstream from the parking point as I approached so I opted to walk down the forestry track to the bottom of the beat.
Saw a rising fish in the first pool and he grabbed my black Klinkhamer but didn't stay on. That was the only riser I saw. It's a pretty beat with easy wading as it is shallow. There was a deeper section just downstream from the holiday cottage but a squall blew up and it started raining. I hadn't brought a wading jacket so sacked it and walked back to the car.

A blank today. Started fishing at 10:30 and called it a day at 16:00. There was a consistent olive hatch and also the odd mayfly. I hooked one fish on an adams but it came off the hook. Very few rises seen all day and none of the patterns I tried brought the fish to the surface, despite plenty of insects on the water. The water was quite coloured.
