Lovely day, first time on Whitney. A big beat it is, lots of choice and very pleasant scenery to go with it. It is as the brochure says really - looks a great coarse fishery for the barbel and chub hunters, but you would need the inside info of Mr Ward here, as there's so much ground to cover. For the flyfisherman there's so much easy wading over gravel, totally different from the areas above Hay. Enjoyed it, thanks wuf.

River too low, very good day though. This was our first visit to the Whitney Court fishery and we struggled to identify the beats adequately. No salmon were observed the whole day, however small trout were in abundance and produced some sport.

Saw a few fish, thought "any second now" twice. It did but only to 2 very fat brownies. The river looked in good condition but the water has gone all too quick. Cracking beat with lots of water to fish.

We had a great day on the river with falling water. A great stretch for fly fishing with a full range pools, glides and streams. We saw a number of fish and were very well looked after.
I would thoroughly recomend a days fishing on this beat. The scenary is fantastic with kites, kingfishers seen regularily through the day.

Visiting anglers Bob and Jack worked hard all day in superb conditions. Fish were showing to keep up the spirits and they were rewarded with a good 12lb hen fish at the end of the day from beat 5, fishing from the right bank.

The river wasn't particularly high so I was surprised to find, when I arrived, that it was thickly coloured with visibility down to two inches. Might have been ok for barbel but I was fishing for pike, and blanked!

Unfortunately my visit coincided with the first heavy rain of the autumn which brought the river level up by a couple of feet. The river was having a flush through so was full of rubbish. I found a fishable swim on beat 5/6 and managed a few nice Chub to 4ib 2oz. No barbel today.

River low and clear. Fished all day for barbel and/or chub. Trotting various baits and rolling meat - not a single take. Observed shoal of barbel at Hay bridge which stayed in one spot for the three days we were visiting. They took no interest in loose fed bait. Large shoal of dace active in the shallows above Hay bridge.
Disappointed but fish clearly not inclined to feed.
