River very low, bright sun and East wind meant hard yards. Good olive hatch brought little up but river switched on for the evening spinner fall, as the wind dropped before dark. 12 Trout from 6 to 16 inches. Happy. This return covers two evening rises and a morning.

Fish really started moving at around 7pm. Lots of activity in the larger pools below the bridge, but also the shallow runs.

Landed a 17-18 inch fish and had another snap me off. Jingler and emerger flies were all they were interested in.

Weather hot and sunny with a sometimes strong upstream breeze, river looked quite low. Struggled at Penpont today, lost a good fish early on then struggled to get anything to take the dry.

All in all I had five takes during the day two, two missed and one small 10 inch fish landed that avoided the blank. Despite plenty of mayfly coming off the river, the only thing I could get them to take was a small black gnat again.

Caught on nymphs & drys all quality fish. Lost several more. Lovely water.

Second day of introducing two mates to the joy of river fly fishing. Got off to a good start the day before at Abernant. Much harder today. River low and clear with plenty of fly life. Yesterday was downstream nymphing, today upstream nymphing and dry. Different gravy!! In spite of a few takes, dry net for the newbies. Highlight of the day I caught a porker of a wbt, around the 3lb mark, certainly amongst my top 3 in the 15 years I've been fishing the Usk. Caught on an emerger, returned safely. Another decent fish taken off the top with an F-fly. Brilliant but tough going for the beginners.

I had a difficult day trying to tempt trout to a variety of dry flys all to no avail
