Poor conditions, heavy rain and sleet/snow throughout the day. No significant hatch. Managed two brownies, the first around the 12" to other 15". Both fish took a PTN and were in excellent condition.

Wind picked up during the day. I gave up after many tangles. Lovely beat but too pricey now.

A mostly bright, sunny day after a cold night but I'm not sure that justifies the nil return on a beautiful beat. I tried a wide variety of nymphs and spiders, occasionally a dry fly but nothing worked.
March browns were hatching sporadically in the early afternoon but no fish were rising. Lots of sightings of dippers and kingfishers and many otter prints, plus a couple of spraints.

After a fantastic day at Ashford House we had high expectations that the following day would be similar. Penpont is great, varied water and the MB started hatching as expected at 11:30. However, few fish rose for them. The day was warm and sunny, but with a chilly northerly wind. We had 11 between the 2 of us on dries mainly fished blind. Smallest about 1/2lb and larges close to 2lb. After the hatch finished we nymphed for hours but no takes. Strange day, but I have to say Penpont is a gorgeous place to fish.

9 x trout 9-16 inches, dry flies - Deer Hair Emerger, spiders - Waterhen Bloa, Dark Moorgame, Woodcock and Hare's Lug. A cold start, but clear, bright sun so a big temperature swing. Short hatch of March browns around 12.30 and large dark olives were also about. Penpont as beautiful as ever, with lambs in the fields and kites overhead. As the ticket price has gone up, it might not be inappropriate to ask if something can be done about access through the broken gate at the end of the second field, left hand bank, below the bridge? Currently it is wired shut and a tangle of wire is no fun for anglers to get over while wearing expensive chest waders.

All fish euro style nymphing, best went 1lb1/4. only hooked and lost one fish on dry, fishing blind on broken shallow run,a few rising but not great yet. Nice beat, plenty of easy wading. Unfortunately getting as expensive as the chalk streams down south.
