Fished the lower part of the beat. Heavy rain showers and river level quite high and coloured. Will come back in better conditions. Nothing caught, no bites. Found a box of flies. Will return them if you get in touch.

The weather held up better than expected. The river was running clear. Parked at the lower end of the beat and worked my way up to the junction with the Senni.
All fish caught on CDC emerger patterns, mainly because I couldn’t tell what they were eating. Hatches came from early afternoon onwards picking up as the drizzle picked up. Stunning section of river.

Sunny breezy day with good hatch of mixed flies - frustratingly very few fish rising. No fish caught or rises.

Beautiful day on the river. Managed to catch 2 x 18 inch Brown trout. One on a small olive emerger pattern and one on a green perigdon Lost two others. Lots of fly life as day went on (olives, LDO, the odd mayfly I believe, and a pinky looking fly, evidence of stonefly hatch also) Rises seemed to only be in certain water types/areas, other than those areas ( medium flow with cover) did not see much else. Water temp 12 degrees, suspect water level low for this time of year. Water very clear most places.

Conditions were good but the fishing was hard. Fish were rising but weren't interested in my dry fly offerings.I also tried nymphs and wet flies but still no success.

Steady trickle of hatches throughout the day but very little sign of surface activity. Hard work but 4 trout to nymphs. Lovely spot.

A bright day with a clear river and an easterly breeze. Thats the excuses done! Little by way of consistent fly life … occasional olives snd March browns and hawthorns. Jim managed to winkle one 9”er out although the sheep were not impressed …. The two he let go with long distance catch and release when the light changed in the evening would gave. Ren much better. We had another James out with us, first time on the Usk, no fish but thoroughly enjoyed the river.

Blanked. A stark contrast to our day on Penpont a few couple of weeks ago! Just one of those days where it feels like there’s no fish in the river. Didn’t see a fish rise all day despite a sparse hatch in the afternoon.

A note on the wading on the beat. It is currently extremely slippery underfoot even with felt or studded soles. The bedrock and river bed is covered in brown algae which is absolutely treacherous.

A beautiful beat nevertheless.
