A bright day on a lovely stretch of river with many features further upstream. Levels fairly low and few fish rising. Fished dries and nymphs with no success. A nice walk through the woods.

First time to ever fish the Usk. booked this total blind,so it was more of a adventure. Parked at car park 2, on the bridge, fish downstream czeph nymphing,a few fast pools and started catching straight away, not big,,say 10/12 inch fish, but great...after 2/3 runs below bridge it starts getting impossible to fish, slow deep pools over bed rock, once you're out of the wood it opens up and gets better, the water was low,,but fish in most of the fast runs,,most small best went 14 inches. Not a lot rising which was disappointed as flies everywhere. Best nymph was a coffee coloured tungsten ptn.
Went as far as big waterfall then walked back to car...to refuel and have a drink.looked at map and wanted to fish upstream left bank above bridge but wasn't great here,,and hard to get in the water,so called it a day.possibly should have gone lower down.not a soul around.

All caught on nymphs as the "Extra Rod" turned out to be three guys who stomped about all day fishing a very low river like it was a put and take still water fishery. This prevented any descent Dry fly fishing before a strong gusty wind shut things down.

River low, weather warm with some sun in the afternoon. Fished long and hard with only one small trout lost and two takes missed, a few flies coming off in the morning bringing up the odd fish but from about 1pm onwards the river died and what fish we did locate were super spooky. An enjoyable but difficult day on dry flies.

Wonderful place, really beautiful. Casting is tough with the width of the river and the overhanging branches. Fish in evidence but nothing caught. It was a hot slow day so maybe it was that. Just nice to be in such a wonderful place
