Perfect fishing conditions. River slightly discoloured. Nothing caught Saw other anglers fishing the same beat ahead of me.
WUF Note: Cefn Rhosan Fawr is mostly single bank fishing so it is quite possible that the other anglers were legitimate. That said, there have been reports of 2 anglers illegally fishing this part of the Usk (maroon coloured Range Rover). Anyone seen spinning at this time of year should be reported asap to the emergency line 0800 80 70 60.

Water seemed just right - up a bit from the week before. Weather cool with showers. We each caught a nice trout 1¼lb and 1½lb around midday. Then things slowed down until a rise about 2pm enabled us to get two more a bit under 1lb on a dry fly. Two more tiddlers later in the afternoon.

A lovely day to choose to go fishing; after the deluge and before the gales! I'm rarely as lucky as this. The beat looked ravishing and there were flies to behold. False March Browns, I think. But the trout weren't interested and few rises were seen during the day. But prospecting with a large dry fly produced results and 3 small trout were caught. The large Ephemeroptera disappeared by mid day and I put on a nymph and caught another 3 trout from streamier sections of the river. In the afternoon I found 2 fish rising in a slow glide, managed to rise them both to a small dry fly and of course, pricked one and failed to hook the other.
Red kites, swallows, martins, wagtails and dippers added to a delightful day.

Good days fishing with some healthy, hard fighting fish.
Good hatch of olives and March browns from lunch time till about 4ish. Most of the fish taken on dries targeting rising fish.

Fished in the afternoon, bright blustery day, very occasional fish rising, caught nothing, but lovely stretch of the river.

Returned. Very bright and river very low and clear. I was only able to stay until 4pm and suspect that evening may have been more productive. Fished a mixture of nymph or dry depending on the water. Tough day's fishing but lovely beat to be on never the less.

Fine warm weather. A steady hatch of fly all day, mainly olives. Moved two good trout in stretch above the mouth of the Cilieni which came to dry fly. Only fished the lower beat. Very little surface activity. Water fairly low and clear.

Quite a lot of fish showing. Maybe they liked the shaded conditions as it was very sunny. Caught one of 1¼lb on a dry fly - small March Brown, over a rising fish. Hooked two others about the same size on downstream nymph, but I had been advised to use a 3lb cast, and they both broke me. Soon returned to 5lb for fishing below the surface.

Had a little difficulty finding the beat initially and spent most of my time just below and wading up about a mile from the stone bridge. Lovely stretch with high banks although this weekend the water was incredibly low and no bites over about a four hour period before giving up. Saw one fish kiss the water opposite the barracks but nothing else.

Difficult conditions...bright sunshine. Sparse occasional hatch, only saw two fish rise all day. Single fish surrendered to a nymph. Stunning stretch of water....will definitely return.
