Beat access is very difficult - much harder than the beat description implies. It should be clearer. Banks are steep and overgrown and there is a lot of deep mud that makes getting in and out very difficult. There is also a lot of deep water on this bank. The top part of the beat is entirely overgrown and inacccessible so the beat is effectively shorter than the map suggests. A herd of bullocks that home in on you at a gallop every time you appear on the bank only adds to the difficulty.

River was fairly low so made all areas accessible - 3 brownies caught on a dry fly, including one that was 3Ibs+ - little bit of breeze at times, generally overcast. A good day's fishing

A rather disappointing day. Lowish river and water still very cold. I usually see one or two fish here, particularly from the high banks but today, no sign of fish at all. Tried deep fishing beaded GRHEs and PTNs but nothing at all interested. Roll on some warmer days.

Last attempt of the season to flush out a salmon met with failure. So a poor end to a poor season and I will be praying to the river gods for better next year!

Managed to get a few hours in to round off the season. Weather was much cooler than previous day, around 13c where it had been 19c, not sure if this had a bearing but did not see much fly life at all, a few off the water but very little. No luck at all on dry, did not see a rise or a fish. Towards end of session switched to beaded nymph and picked up on wbt, a bit less than 1lb. An enjoyable few hours and just as I was leaving spotted a big salmon in the middle of the beat just down from the bend, if anyone is there over next few days as water level would need to rise for it to move up stream. Thanks WUF for another good season.

A field of very inquisitive mixed heifers followed me to the water's edge. Much of the beat is a high near vitical bank which gave a great view of the river bed, as the water was the clearest I've ever seen. Several trout were stationed close to the bank. Unfortunately, with the interest from the heifers casting to these was out of the question and ladning the fish would have been challenging. I finally entered the river towards the bottom of the beat after some bushwacking at just about the only accessible point protected from heifer interest by an electric fence. Here the river is knee deep and quite quick over small boulders, so wadeable with a staff. When I arrived back up at a point where it might be possible to reach the fish I'd seen earlier, a strong looking dog otter pocked his head up no more than 8m away. No fish caught.

Very tricky day. Got there early, one or two trout rising but no interest in what I was offering. Too hot by 10:30 so went to enjoy the Brecon Beacons. Returned in the evening, hoping for a hatch, but no luck.
