Lovely day on this beat. The wading is easy but slippy in places due to the build up detritus in shallow sections. Although trout were showing on the surface all over the beat and lots of insect life, we found they were taking emergers rather than duns. We caught parachute style flies in smaller sizes.

First time on this beat. 7”on Llanstephan gauge.
There are some lovely long glides, and back in the day when there were good salmon runs, some of the pools must have offered superb fly water and would have a joy to fish. All trout were small but two the grayling were sizable fish. I would say that it deserves a return visit, but my day was ruined by nasty fall. The high steep banks on the right bank near the top are extremely dangerous in places. Part of the bank collapsed while I was exiting resulting in a drop onto rocks and a serious shoulder injury.Which rather soured the day.

Whilst the river was nice and clear, the rocky bottom was covered in a horrible brown slime (biofilm I assume).
There was absolutely no vegetation in the submerged sections and with 3 people fishing, over 3 days, we never even saw a fish, let alone catch one!
What has happened to the wonderful River Wye? I have to say, after our experiences of the past few years, we probably won't be returning to this river, which is a real shame, because the area and the people are amazing... but it's pointless going on an annual fishing weekend, if there are no fish.

All fish returned.
River was fast flowing with a gusty wind blowing from down stream.
Grayling was caught on an olive emerger and the small brook trout on a hares ear nymph.

A windy day which made casting tough. Good size graying caught on an Olive emerger and a small brown caught on a hares ear nymph.
