Water slightly coloured but clearing and about 16inches up on summer level. GC started the day with a cracking grayling around the 2lb mark and followed this up with 4 more plus a couple of small wbt and 5 salmon parr. DC had a few on and off (blaming barbless hooks not poor technique), then later in the day connected with a fingering grayling and 6 wbt one of which was around the one pound mark and in fantastic condition.
Very little surface activity with no sort of hatch to encourage fish up. Another good day they can't take away from us.
Many thanks to W & U and the fishery owner.

Not sure why but Ty Newydd, on my visits, never shows much surface activity. Today was no different despite a big rise of olives about 4pm. Fish were feeding however and so a team of three wets, with a weighted one on the point, interested them well enough. Most fish came to an olive spider with a hint of rusty orange at the thorax. As to size; best trout was 10"' best grayling a little over. Lost one pretty large grayling when he threw the hook close to the net. Temperature was about 20degC and the Llanstephan gauge showed 18".

After wash off on Usk we got afternoon session on Wye, rainy day with some sunshine, not much surface activity. Water raised quickly up to 2ft, still clear. We had few trouts and nice graylings on wet black spider from bottom beat's boards.

First time on this beat and size of makes it a challenge working out where to fish - thanks to DC for his advice.
Day started well - within first half hour had 2 grayling around 10" and had lost one and missed another take all from the Bathing Pool.
Worked our way to the bottom of the beat and back up to the Bathing Pool for a late lunch and had not seen another fish - nothing rising or taking.
At 2.30 had a small trout. We knew we had to leave at 4.30 so headed up to the mouth of the Clettwr. Here we finally found a few rises and tempted 3 more grayling 10", 12" and a plump 15". Fishing was hampered by a strong upstream wind - but we stuck with small dries all day.
A lot of water to find fish in and not easy to wade far enough to fish all the available water - but a lovely stretch of river.

All taken on pheasant tail nymph. Strong healthy fish two about 1/2lb one close to 1 1/2lb. First time in area but river seemed in pristine condition.

Quiet day with few rises & no takers on wets/nymphs until a carpet of tiny ants started arriving c. 4pm, prompting a feeding frenzy across the river. Matching the hatch proved difficult as nothing was airborne and all my smallest flies were ignored (griffiths gnat etc.) Eventually tempted a couple of grayling on a tiny klinkhammer from the Green Bank tail, including a hard-fighting 16" fish which needed almost 10 minutes to recover itself.
Even the resident ducks joined in the ant-fest, whizzing round the pool in flotilla formation slurping up as many as they could. The carpet was still arriving when I left c. 7pm, so there must have been trillions of ants and a lot of full-to bursting fish- I saw from another report same thing at Dolgau so they must have hatched somewhere way upstream.
