Not unexpectedly a hard day. Gin clear and low water and bright skys all contributed to just 4 fish being brought to the net during an 8hr day. Best Trout was 15" and a lovely fish. All the fish took nymphs as there was virtually no rise during the day (up to 6pm) despite fly coming off. We enjoyed the beat as it was a new one to us so we will return seeking (hopefully) better sport

Beautiful still and sunny day, lovely beat. Good hatches. Just very little evidence of fish feeding. The fish I did spot were very spooky - river is crystal clear at the moment. Eventually caught a lovely WBT deep on a nymph.

Very little sign of any fish rising until mid afternoon despite seemingly ideal conditions on this lovely stretch of river. When the fish finally did take an interest in surface fly (I tried various nymphs sub-surface before this), I started to get quite a bit of interest in my Klinkhammer offering. Unfortunately for me I seemed unable to connect, probably because I was a little too eager (striking too early?) on my first day out this year. Eventually I did manage to connect and with a wonderful fish around 18" in length which put-up a significant fight; very satisfying.

A Northerly wind kept the temperatures to 10C max. but it was a lovely sunny day. The river was very low making wading easier than usual.
I started with gold headed nymphs and took a couple of fish and lost one much bigger. I soon found myself at the large pool at the top of the beat where a few fish were rising to the occasional olive and March Brown and spent some time trying to tempt one but as on previous visits the fish here proved difficult and the trees behind you hinder casting so I headed for the flats as a variety of insects were now coming off.
I love the flats here, especially on a sunny day and soon spotted rising fish, fantastic stuff on a dry fly but today was frustrating as the fish just wouldn't stay on the hook. I lost three, each time checking my hook for sharpness, but in the end changed my fly and then promptly lost another! In the end I managed 4 on dries the last being a beast of a fish with a mouthful of needle sharp teeth which must have been nudging 2lb.
