Second day on Glan-yr-Afon. Still tough fishing due to the low water and bright sunshine. However, managed 12 fish in total, most on nymphs fished down through the faster runs and pocket water. Three of the fish were 12", two were 10" and the rest were 8" or less. Really lovely bit of water. Can imagine that it is fantastic if you catch it on the right day.

Cracking beat. Some lovely glides and pools, interspersed with fantastic cascades and riffles. River very low and clear after the hottest April on record! Rod one caught nothing, rod two had five fish of 7", 9", 10", 10" and 16.5". Epic spinner fall in the evening of tiny (size 16-18) upwinged flies. Possibly BWOs? Unfortunately had no spinners this small. However, the biggest fish took a BWO pattern flattened to resemble a spinner! Lost a really big fish of 20"+ that took a Deer Hair Emerger.

Tough day but enjoyable - blustery conditions and bright skies meant that no fish seen rising. However the fish were there, 6 trout to 1/2 - 1 1/2 lbs all caught on copper head PTN. One taken for the table - others returned.

A good day to be a Large Dark Olive! A spectacular hatch but none of them being eaten. Water was very cold and we could only assume that this was what was keeping the fish from feeding. We saw one trout rise once and all manner of tactics failed to catch. It was a beautiful day though and lovely to be on the water again.

We returned to Glan-Yr-Afon courtesy of the wash-off policy (thank you) after our original date coincided with heavy rainfall and a river in flood. The beat today was still running fast and high (9" above summer level) which meant some of the pools were slow to medium runs and wading was 'interesting'. Crawnon pool the best spot with some rises. One small brown taken on the splash to an Olive Sedge and safely returned. Still a very enjoyable day on an attractive beat in splendid Autumn sunshine. Kites circling above, an otter taking a close interest and herons for company.

River was up a foot from the day before and coloured but dropped fairly fast as the day went on. I returned two Brownies of about nine and ten inches, which were caught on a blue and brown Klinkhammer.
