Low water levels and difficult conditions. A few fish were lost, in addition to the two landed. The fish landed were caught on small streamers.
A mink was sighted hunting along the edge of the river, downstream of the castle, behind the houses at the bottom of town.
An enjoyable afternoon, thank you.

Weather - Hot, initially light cloud then sunny.
Water - Clear but shallow.
Population - a lot of swimmers (human thingies) upstream of the bridge and 2 snorkelling downstream beyond the exposed rocks.
Duration - 15:30 to 18:30
Location - 3 tried between 100 and 250 yards downstream of Green Bridge (South Bank)
Float fished worm trotting. Depth circa 2 to 4 feet depending on tactics.

One exceptional hit just at 14:30, just at the point of retrieving at the end of the trot. Definitely hooked (barbless size 12) but corkscrewed out of the water and dislodged the hook.

Guesstimating well over 12” long and perhaps nudging 2lb. Colour indicated Brown Trout. ????

Hope to try again tomorrow evening but a bit even later than previous afternoons.

A lovely session with some great water to go at. The trout were playing hard to get but some lovely oos grayling were caught, we couldn't seem to get away from them! We were on holiday in the cottages by the river and would love to revisit for the grayling come winter time. We caught fish to nymph, dry dropper and dry fly when a hatch of March browns took off around lunch time. A very fun morning's fishing! Tricky, slippery bottom to wade on though, definitely bring a wading staff and studs if you want to fish from the water!
