River absolutely in perfect condition, 1 ft on the Ganusk gauge is just right. I had 14 browns from 6in to 12in on addams dry. I fished from the bridge up river to the first pool - a nice place to fish not to difficult a bank to fish from. A nice spot is by the bridge up stream to wade out a little way so as you can cast under the trees, there are a few fish always there and all so in mid river. Can't believe there was no rain here to mess things up.

Had three hours at Glanusk on the final leg of a 5-day trip to WUF country. Started fishing about 11am, nymphed the riffley water below the bridge unsuccessfully for an hour.
Then the sun shone through (first time in 5 days) and immediately fish started showing in the pool below the bridge. Prolific LDO hatch for about 20 minutes followed by some Yellow Mayfly.

It seemed that the trout were taking the emergers just beneath the surface film, the rises being boils rather than splashes. Tied on a trusty French Partridge, let it absorb some water and fished it just below the surface. 4wbt landed, all around the 12" mark. Felt the fishing was going to be good all afternoon but alas all good things have to come to an end and the M4 beckoned.

On the way home I refelected on 5 days of such varied and enjoyable fishing. I spent around £100 on the beats which took me to small mountain streams, pristine freestone water and the volumous Wye. I caught half a dozen fish a day, nothing under 7" and many over 10", every fish on a dry fly, nothing that had ever seen the inside of a hatchery. I walked, scrambled and waded in some breathtaking countryside, met some friendly and generous people and enjoyed every minute. That £100 would buy me half a day on the River Test or Itchen. Very simply, there's no comparison. Thank you WUF.

2 rods ,1 10" wbt on a stonefly nymph, caught & released, a few tugs and splashy arrivals at dries all missed. Thoroughly enjoyed the day, great conditions but not skillful enough.

Glan Usk has some lovely water and looked perfect. Weather unpredictable - sunshine and squally showers, which meant hatches unpredictable. Some large dark olives, olive uprights and medium olives, best early afternoon. Occasional members of march brown family seen but not convinced are march browns so a prisoner taken for identification purposes. Typical early season Usk fishing - challenging - but 6 fish caught between PB, JB and JS. JS had the best - a plump fish 15". Just as we were thinking about finishing a lovely fresh silver tourist was desporting herself.

Had a good early season day on Glanusk on Sunday last before the rain came - 6 browns to 16" to 3 rods all on dry fly during sporadic large dark olive and brook dun hatches. At the time 9" on the gauge and falling!

The river was dropping away and clearing after the recent rain. There was an appreciable downstream wind but because of the bend in the lower beat it was possible to get out of it to some extent. A sporadic hatch of olives from about 1 o'clock provoked some activity and I caught 3 fish of about 10" on dark spiders. Then found some rising fish in a quiet glide and caught 3 more from the surface. So, 6 altogether all returned.
