Such a beautiful beat but tough today. Very clear and very bright. Pretty much every fish rising was a oncer. But as ever a joy to be there.

Oddly, little in the way of hatch or rise. Two modest fish (up to 12") on PTN. Could the cold water presumably being released from very full reservoirs following such a wet Jan-Feb be inhibiting the expected olives hatch? Seemed to be more spinners than duns (though few of either). The river is still quite high following 3 weeks now with no rain, and little flow in the brooks. (I saw there were plenty of minnows about, some quite big, which could possibly be imitated by streamers)

Arrived 9:00am and walked the beat as unfished before. Weather fine and warming, no wind. Found a section about mid way along with rising fish and tried several dries and emergers but no luck. The nearest was on a grannom where the fish swerved away from the take at the last second. Went over to nymphs but no luck either. A sporadic March brown hatch PM in the strong sun around 3:00pm saved the day. Swapped fly to a MB dry and hooked and landed two fish which had started rising and missed a third which caught me by surprise on a speculative cast. What a lovely place to go trout fishing, thanks to the owners for making this water available. Larger fish pictured. All fish returned safely as usual.

Couldn’t get on the water today due to other commitments. Shame would have loved a day out.

Decent hatch of dark olives for 90 minutes at 12.15 … 3 8/12 oz fish and one beautiful fish of nearly 3 pounds …. Delightful day despite slightly high water …

Absolutely vile weather - solid rain all day and strong southeasterly wind. River quite high but surprisingly not too badly coloured. Very little hatching. Despite all, had three good trout - 12”, 13” and 17”, on rusty klinkhamer and PTN variant. All fish safely returned.

The river was fining down after sporadic heavy rain in the previous few days. Intermittent heavy showers and sunshine for us. There was a slight tinge in the water. We saw a good number of flies - olives of different sizes, yellow mays, caddies, even mayflies! But, we saw no rises and caught no trout.
