First time on the town water beat. Plenty of water to go at but a horrible strong cold north wind made fishing challenging today. Still managed a couple of trout, the biggest about 1lb on a nymph, the smaller fish on a sedge.

2 Trout

One caught on a Silver Surfer dry fly and two on a March Brown wet. Huge March Brown hatches at times. Lovely to be out on the water whilst the sun was shining. A bit too cold when it wasn't!

Again, the conditons seemed to suit dries and wets, but all three were caught on nymphs deep down.

Conditions seemed perfect - lots of flies hatching too - but this was a hard day's fishing. I caught one on a dry and one on a wet

Lovely to be back on the Usk fishing for trout. Had four lovely fish and missed a couple more. River was ever so slightly too high so it was a case of fishing up the edges where it was possible to get in, it will be perfect in the next few days.

Great water height and clear, plenty of fish on the nymphs and a tiny 6" salmon just under the town bridge

2 trout approx 1lb + 1 smaller (all returned) all caught on size 14 blowtorch nymph Euro nymphing. Good to see the Usk back to a good height. Fish found in seams at head of pool.

Pulled upto the river about 10:30 and took one look and had a feeling it was going to be a very challenging day!
Water was chocolate brown quite high and the current was very strong. I tried various areas along the upper section of the beat but could only go about 2-3m in from the bank as the current was so strong and I didn’t fancy being washed down to Newport!
Nothing rising at all and not a lot of insect life about just drips and drabs.
Eventually after about 6 hours or so I packed up in a huff and sulked all the way home.
Clearly because of all the rain the conditions really weren’t ideal so will have to come back another day!

4 Trout

1 trout caught and one lost euro nymphing just below the town bridge. Short rise at 6.30 which had finished by the time I’d noticed and set up my dry fly rod, fellow angler managed to catch 2 trout on dry and one on nymph during the rise.
