The river looked good but catching was hard for this beat where there are usually large shoals of barbel and chub. We thought they were either still spawning below in the rapids or resting. However we enjoyed the day and will come again in July.

Very enjoyable day fishing the full length of the beat in the company of Colin Richardson. Conditions were excellent although only one salmon showed itself.
A blank was saved by a beautifully conditioned pike of 15 pounds which took a Flying C at last knockings, in the bay in front of the fishing hut.

Water up a bit (just over 3 on their gauage which bears no relation to the WUF Fownhope guage, where it was around 2)but still relatively fishable and clear enough for fly.
The Ley itself and the water around the bend on the island is really nice fly water and again felt hopeful. But only managed 1 kelt of about 8lb and lost another fish that in all likelihood was also a kelt

Hooked and lost a salmon at 6pm on a black and yellow brass tube. Only action all day. River in great condition - 2'9" on the gauge in front the hut.

A very cold day. Water was still pretty high. May have had 1 pull but other than that no action. The bottom pool on the bend by the island is nice and I felt like I was in with a shot.

Last day of the season and a blank. Water (just under a foot at Fownhope) and weather were looking OK, at least for chub maybe - but no fish caught (or even seen) save for one solitary salmon leaping, too far away to make out properly. Really good access (especially on the hut side) both to the beat itself and to the water, which is accessible for much of the length. Cheers to Colin the ghillie for coming along and giving us tips on likely barbel haunts, would definitely like to try this water again when temperatures have risen.

A fairly short fishing sesssion today was more of an endurance test than a pleasure, in what must be coldest conditions we have ever fished in. One 3lb chub caught on pellet was a bonus in these conditions and more than I expected.

Water temperature had risen slightly from the previous day bringing a better response from the fish. We had 6 barbel to 6lb 7oz and three chub on pellet, fishing under our brollies for most of the very wet day. It was nice to end with a chat with Colin who has done some good work towards clearing the vast amount of flood debris on the banks.

It was pleasing to catch two barbel and a chub each on a dull, wet and cool day. The fish weren't big but very welcome. Water levels were well down enabling fairly light rods and feeders to be used.
