First time on this beat and was delighted to find a really well looked after beat with plenty of swims. Dropped into a couple of swims but were struggling when the river keeper Colin arrived mid afternoon. He advised us where to fish, I was too lazy to move but my mate moved and was rewarded with a couple of barbel.
Colin is a really helpful and knowledgeable person and other beats could learn from the way he looks after his part of the river.

2 barbel & 2 chub caught first thing from swims either side of shallows 2/3 way down beat, nothing else until I moved up to the swim in front of hut last thing when 3 barbel & a chub put in an appearance. 2 of the barbel were around 8lb & the chub was over 4lb. Always worth staying until dusk on the Wye, river was low & clear always a pleasure to fish this well kept beat.

Conditions were tough with low, clear and cold water and it was well after lunch before we got any response. Three barbel and five chub came in a two hour spell mid-afternoon before the river completely switched off as the temperatures dropped. It stayed dry but a stiff NE wind certainly made it feel more like October than of late.

River low and clear with bright weather, all fish caught on pellet. This venue never fails to produce fish and is so well maintained by Colin. He joined us for a chat in the afternoon and gave us a few tips, such a nice fellow!

First time fishing this beat so we were not quite sure what to expect. The conditions were windy and overcast. We made for the end of the beat but my companion fished about 3/4's of the way down while I went on further. A long walk and not for the faint hearted. Travel light. We both caught fish immediately on feeder tactics and the fish fed all day with just a quiet spell here and there. The Barbel ranged from 2lbs up to the 2 best fish of just over 9lb's. Most of the Chub were between 3 and 5 pounds with the best one 5 pounds 2 ounces.
A brilliant days fishing in a beautiful place. I would have loved to have fished with the Stick and Pin but needed to wade and my chest waders had sprung a leak.
Will definitely be back.

River a little on low side due to lack of rain in catchment area. Most of the anglers fished feeder in the middle of the river or towards near edge. Three out of four anglers blanked and had 1 bite between them. The fourth angler managed two chub, approximately 2lb and 2.5lbs. Both these fish fell to luncheon meat, one to a size 16 hook attached to a 50grm open ended, small swim feeder. (The leader was 3 feet long) After missing a couple of bites, a twenty pence size piece of luncheon meat was trotted down on a stick float resulting in the 2nd chub. Both fish were in pristine condition and were caught about 1/3 of the way across the river near a crease. The fishery itself was in pristine condition, easy access with relatively gentle slopes; and even the grass had been cut along the path which was appreciated. Great day even though the fishing was very hard.

Another lovely day at Holme Lacy. Lots of snagging up but common theme on the Wye. All fish mint condition. Best Babel 8lb, Chub 5lb, no Chub under 4lb and mouths you could fit a tennis ball in. Good chat with Colin as usual.

We appreciated that we were making the most of the superb autumn weather by fishing on the Wye and catching 6 barbel to 7lb 12oz and 11 chub from the lower end of the beat was a bonus. River getting very low and in need of rain, how's that for spoiling things?
