Sunday 22nd - River high very coloured very slow sport. Managed one small Barbel 5lb'ish and a small Chub 2-3lbs.

Monday 23rd - River dropping back a bit. Still very coloured and a lot of debris coming down. A bit more action with 3 Barbel, best 9lbs 3oz, other two not weighed but around 5 & 7 lbs respectively. Also had 1 good chub of 6lbs 2oz and one fish lost.

Tuesday 24th - River continuing to drop back and now around 1ft lower than 1st day. Could only start around 9.30am and had to pack up around 2.45 pm but managed a couple of barbel one around the 5/6 lb mark. The other I put at 8lbs+ (not weighed). Both fish came in 1st hour with no further action.

Fished 4.30pm -8.30pm. First time on this beat and the river was high and coloured so had to apply educated guesswork regarding good swims. Must have guessed OK as I caught 5 Barbel from 6lbs to 8lbs 2oz and a massive Eel which thankfully unhooked itself and slithered back into the river.

Tough going today. Arrived at 2pm, first 2 casts resulted in a Chub and a Barbel, then next cast a Barbel lost at the net (hook pull). Then it went quiet. Changes in tactics, baits and swims didn't help. Final swim chosen at 8 pm produced an 8lbs Barbel, a Chublet and another Barbel lost in a snag at last knockings. River rising slowly about an inch per hour and a thick milk chocolate colour, hard work.

Our third trip to the Wye this year and the first time it stayed dry - at least until the evening!
The river was down, about 3ft above normal. We wasted time looking for a swim on the lower section, rope pool etc still too treacherous because of recent flooding - How do you access the Ford stream pool? We couldn't find it. The fishing is double bank - but no access or parking shown on map for the far bank?
Anyway, we fished the top end, and while the fishing was slow with long periods between bites we eventually ended up 15 barbel to 9 1/2lbs, with the rest between 6 - 8lbs, plus a few chub.
Another most enjoyable but challenging day.

Had the stretch to myself. Fished 4 swims catching chub in three of them, all 3lbs plus, 4 in total. Found the barbel at lunchtime and had a good afternoon /evening catching 8 barbel to 8lbs plus, despite it raining from 2pm until I left. Very muddy but a good result in the end.

5 chub between us, caught on a mixture of pellets and meat. Barbel hard to locate in very high water! A shame the Maddox isn't available this year - it added some variety to the beat, even if the fish weren't often in the pool.
