Tough day, river low and clear. Barbel not playing ball. A few pike on lures saved the day.

We booked 2 rods for the day, our first time ever fishing on the Wye. We took a punt on which beat to fish, we wanted Caradoc but its always fully booked.
We loved the surroundings but don't think we would fish this beat again. We found the swims very limited for a 1 mile stretch of river and found only about 4-5 swims that were safe enough to actually fish from.
The directions were also someway sparse and the fishery itself not enough basic info on the place not even the name of the beat/fishery anywhere to be seen and we had to check with the local farmer to check we were in the right place!
As said loved the surrounds, the fishing was quite slow we only had 1 small barbel at 6lb.10 and lost 1, bait that caught was a small pellet boilie with some paste wrap. Lovely looking mint fish.
Will defo fish the Wye again as the whole area is stunning, but we need to do some research as to where to fish and this time we would like to meet someone there that could tell us a bit about the beat.

River and weather in perfect condition, only problem was the leaves drifting down stream. After trying meat, corn, mini boilies and pellet all morning with no joy the concern was would we catch. Luckly the afternoon produced 5 barbel to 9lb, no surprise on pellet. What a great setting to fish in and will return.

Misty moisty morning after a 3am get up. Arrived to find the river higher than I expected. Careful monitoring of online info persuaded me to give it one last go before serious Winter set in. Started off in swim below Vanstone Pool and fourth cast had what felt like a good fish on before the hook straightened out (so much for the manufacturers extra strong boast). Very hard work from then on and I worked my way swim by swim downstream trying all manner of baits. Eventually managed one barbel around 6lb before getting a pike rod out and fishing one of the slacks. Not a sniff.
Anyway glad I made the trip, satisfied my curiosity and got there. The river and surroundings were beautiful, I watched a kingfisher fish for at least half an hour and had a cheeky mink for company. I also pike fished on the Wye, something I have yearned to do for a long long time. Happy to squelch off back to the car for a long drive home. Will return but probably not until next Summer.

River looked in good condition - 3 foot or so below recent levels when I have visisted, a little colour but not too bad. Lots of rubbish coming down. One small chub for our efforts.

River dropping through the day, still carrying some colour. Quite a bit of debris in the water. Roved during the day landing 3 barbel and a chub. As always a great day on one of my favourite stretches of river.

Near enough perfect conditions, river on the high size. I had a 9.2lbs barbel in the first 20 minutues followed by a 4lbs then a 7.10lbs by 1pm. After that not a single touch. My friend KT had no bites till 2pm, then he managed to land 4 chub. Barbel very poor, we can't understand why? Overfished? River to high? The usual pegs that produce barbel were not producing any thing, pretty dissapointed.
