Note to WUF
The gate support posts (for gate access to fishing) are getting more and more rickety. Not sure how long they are going to take anglers weight climbing over gate (which appears to be securely chained closed)

A late start, about mid day, and the predicted rain hammered down at times in an otherwise grey but very warm day. Rises were sparse until late afternoon and early evening, but Mayflies were still around, and the odd one or two were sipped below the surface or snapped under bank-side vegetation. I prospected with a wide range of Mayflies, mostly looking in likely places where fish might be. I missed several by being taken by surprise and a lack of concentration, but caught 9 WBT in all - three of which were of a notable size. A beautiful setting.

New rod thanks Sportsfish! Weather cool, windy and dry, and low clear water. Late morning and no hatch to speak of. Nymphed down stream with a few knocks but no fish. Again use of the soft hackle CDC in all water types ( Thanks Jon) brought all fish to the net - best at 11 inches. Fished early afternoon and noticed sperodic hatch of olive with a few rises.
As I left two optimistic anglers paying no attention to me began prospecting??

2 brown trout about 12oz on gold head pheasant tail and klinkhammer. Lovely mayfly hatch but no joy with nymph or dry versions. Few fish obviously rising.

Conditions reasonable but a bit bright. Fished for the mayfly experience. Few flies hatching and fewer fish rising

Water looked cloudy but was deceptive as it was clear

6 x BT between 9 and 12 inches, all returned safely. One on mayfly and 5 on Adams. Downstream wind and bright sun made conditions difficult until around 4.30 pm when the fish came on the feed.

Four nice sized trout, the smallest weighing approx' 1/2lb and the best weighing 1.75lb, were caught on dry-fly using mayfly imitations during heavy rain and windy conditions. All trout were caught using barbless hooks and were returned alive and healthy after recovering. Terrific mayfly hatch!
