Only managed an hour on the water, but the 2nd lie covered produced a very coloured 10lb cock fish to a size 8 Bann shrimp fished on a fast sinking sink tip. River at 1ft 5" and still pretty coloured (20" vis). Saw three other running fish. The friend who fished the rod in the morning, saw 10 in a couple of hours, but failed to get a touch.

Just a short afternoon on the river, broke new grounds with a small Dace on a salmon rod. Didn't give to much of a fight, rain tonight?

Beautiful day on the water. Fished team of nymphs, catching fish in the fast running water, the best of them from the runs below the Rectory, in amongst the ranunculus. Most we're small, but best trout went 3/4lb, and the chub and grayling were 1/2lb. Two very big WBT were seen stalking and crashing the fry in the margins. A few salmon showed during the day, Couple of Parr also hooked, all fish returned.

With the river very low, never going to be easy but steadily caught trout and grayling to 10 inches throughout the day.

My son and I try to fish together once a year and so I always try to arrange a special day for us. He works very hard and loves to fish. This year we decided it should be trout and grayling as he had not caught The Lady Of The Stream before. I spoke to Dai in the office and he directed me towards the Upper Wye and The Rectory Beat. It's not a cheap day out but bless you Dai, what a day we had. Although the river was low we found running water just below the bridge and about 200yds upstream. Fishing a team of dark coloured spiders we fished no more than 20 yards apart in these two spots and caught fish all day. We lost count but must have had over seventy fish between us. My son Jake caught his first grayling and then added to his tally throughout the day. The fish were smallish but we had some up to 3/4 lb and I lost two very solid fish. They were in tip top condition and we shared a marvelous and memorable day. Bless you Dai and all at the foundation I've fished your waters for a long time now and your service and advice is always freely given and your work beyond reproach. We salute your efforts!

A difficult day on The Rectory. Very low water and fish hard to come by, after trying spots which normally produce, moved a round a lot and picked up a few, but no real size. An otter greeted me on my arrival which I could try a blame for the bad fishing, but I don't believe that to be the case.
P.S. I was the only person booked on the beat but there was a guy fishing late afternoon directly above the bridge on the right hand bank, I forgot my Map so was unsure if that was part of the beat until I got home. My Friend fished Gromain and said he saw 2 anglers turn up, one armed with a spinning rod, which I believe is not allowed after the end of August. So must assume they were poaching.

River ht. 1'1" and fine weather. Most WBT and grayling were tiddlers with one of each about 9". Most on small white dries or Klinkhammer - which also accounted for the 2 1/2lb chub. Most caught above the bridge.
