Started at 9am under the excellent tutorage of John Symonds, within a couple of hours both able to cast (some of the time!). A great day was had, learnt lots, a couple of fish seen, however none caught.

Fishing:Trout (River)

H caught her first ever fish tonight.
She learnt how to cast in the Bridge pool and then proceeded to catch a salmon parr and then a 1lb grayling all on her own. She even chose the fly. This was without the benefit of waders, just trainers and shorts.
Her sister A also fished but took the time to perfect her casting rather than bother with catching. Very elegant and perfect timing, next time the fish will need to watch out!

For me, one of the best beats of the upper Wye, but tricky in parts to access all of it due to private gardens etc down to the riverbank. Need to criss-cross the river when the depth allows but don't be put off by this as the beat is just great with all different types of gravel runs with fast flow to deep pools with no flow at all so you really have it all on this beat. Wonderful. Thanks again WUF.

No Salmon seen or caught. River a 8", too low for fly fishing but we persevered anyway. Next time will take a spinner if the river is this low.

Height 1' water falling and clear, overcast. Between us we covered every bit of the beat. Other than the odd trout rising nothing seen. Fly avidly taken by 2 perfect, fat trout of around 3/4lb in the Mill pool.

A beautiful day on the Rectory. 1'4" at Llanstephan and very expectant with super clarity and cracking water. One trout of around a pound got the heart racing in the Mill stream but that was the only action of the evening. A superb beat with easy wading and very fishy pools. Until next time...
