Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
Fished from 4pm till 8.30pm. Water at 1ft 5" falling to 1ft 3" 4ft vis and just under 17 degrees C.
A blisteringly hot afternoon. 30 degrees at 4pm! Started on the faster water on the bottom half but gave up after fishing Mill stream and the neck and middle of Rectory and retired for a drink. Moved up to upper half and no sign of a fish until the sun went off the water. Saw a couple head and tail in final hour (tail of Rock and between the stones in the Bridge pool) and heard another jump behind me when fishing tail of Rock pool. Only excitement was a tightening to a worked fly at the end of the tail of the Rock pool, around the spot I had seen a fish show a few minutes before.

37" hen fish from the Mill Race. The fish took a 1/2 inch Ally's brass tube. Had a strong feeling there was a fish in the lie in the neck, moved it on 3rd cast, caught it on 4th, Great scrap with an 80m run at one point. Didn't cast again and rushed back to car happy to get back home and take over family duties.

Another poor day with only the top part of the beat above the bridge fishable. Again access bad with no clear paths cut. The odd little sign would help and being related to a mountain goat for access would be an advantage.

River was very coloured and the height was at 1ft 10" and it was dropping quite quickly. Saw one salmon early on at the tail of Ty Mawr pool but no salmon caught. Had a trout around the pound and a half on the spinner at Ty Mawr pool which was returned as usual.

Great to explore a new beat at summer levels and understand the lies for another day. Lovely fly water. Can't wait to return with 2' on the Llanstephan gauge!

A perfect fishing day. Nothing seen or caught with river very low for this beat. However a great afternoon exploring the lower section of the Rectory and discovering some 'to die for' fly streams, even at this height, which wet the appetite for next time with a little more water. Once again felt sure the pools were occupied and expected a draw on many many wonderful casts. Thanks WUF.
