River probably at 1’5” today but as the Llanstephan gauge is still a storm casualty it was difficult to judge accurately. Alternated between salmon prospecting and trout fishing. No salmon seen but the milder temperature saw small numbers of LDO’s floating by for most of the afternoon. All of the fish 9-10”, from the flats and the Mill pool on various spiders and nymphs.
Partridge and Orange most successful. I was too slow on the strike to hook the many other offers.
There were a lot of canoeists on the beat today, but at least they were courteous and kept away from where I was fishing as best as they could.

A trickle of olives from noon brought some trout up. Will have to sharpen the reflexes to make the most of the very quick takes. A tiny grayling saved the day, caught on the dangle near the bridge.
Still, good to see rising fish so early in the season.

The river was very high and coloured. Most of the beat was far too dangerous to fish. However, great news, The gravel catch was fishable and I managed a thoroughly enjoyable hour. No real prospect of a fish, but wonderful to be on the river so early in the year.

FOUND - a pair of wader boots

The following boots were on the side of the road on the Gromain Beat. I have put them in the main Gromain hut.

Couldn’t entice many grayling again today with the river at 2’ 1” and still carrying some colour. Fish came to the usual weighted nymphs and bugs, but there were none over 10”.

River at 2' with a tinge and strong current. Fish came to zugbug and pink goldhead. Off-season 1lb trout and 8"grayling . Good to squeeze in a session before predicted strong winds and rain up there.

River running clear , down to 1’2” on the gauge. Very cold and fished a light salmon/switch rod mainly from the bank to keep wading to a minimum. 3 1/2 hours long line nymphing produced a few fish , but takes were sporadic and all the fish were small.
