I believe I have been catching sea trout even though the Usk is not a renowned sea trout river and the time of the season seems out. The two I took for the pan were very pink fleshed. I expected them to be a silver brown trout but I now think they could be early run sea trout. Caught at dusk on dry fly.
WUF Note: Some Usk (& Wye) brown trout can be very silver in appearance with dark spots and without much in the way of red or yellow markings. The fish caught were likely (but not definitely) browns.

Fished wet and dry flies. River level pretty normal I
imagine but I've never fished this or similar rivers before.
The river was beautiful in glorious surroundings in
warm spring weather. I didn't see any fish or catch any fish which was disappointing but a highly enjoyable day nevertheless. I'm expecting to try Penpont tomorrow.

Two anglers caught ten brown trout, all in good condition with weights between 3/4lb and (a weighed) 3lb, all fighting fit! taken to various small dry flies (lots of medium olives showing). Good river height, bright overcast warm May day location is beautiful with good access.

Spotty day like the weather. Little activity until mid afternoon when there was a patch of about an hour when there were a number of fish feeding then nothing much for the remainder of the day.
Probably outmaneuvered by the fish but tried different water heights and types of flies during the course of the morning to no avail. Ultimately caught three fish and lost around four. The fish were taken on a klinkhammer and a wooly nymph. The largest was a pound and a half, the others half that size.
Really enjoyed the beat despite the inclement weather and will definitely return.

Alas, No fish caught. Feeling my age (68) must be less ambitious and more laid back. Wonderful settings and river was at its optimum (shame about the fisher!!)
Stayed in Ramblers Rest Cottage in Crickhowell (very good). As for the Wye and Usk Foundation Passport, what a great idea. More should be done by other river/landowners to promote an excellent fishing chance. Will be back. Very many thanks.

River was at normal seasonal level and running clear.
An early start saw no fish rising and despite attempting to encourage a rise using dry fly no fish were playing along. A change to wet fly for a hour produced results and 5 brown trout were caught and released, all nice fish of around 12".
Following lunch we reverted to dry fly and had some really cracking sport throughout the remainder of the day producing another 13 browns between us. Again all nice fish, some of around 15".
This is a truly beautiful part of the country and would have no hesitation in recommending to others and returning myself.
The land owner and the gillie made an appearance through the day and offered friendly and valuable tips, a big thank you to them as I doubt our numbers would have been so high without their assistance.

At 9am it felt more like March than May. Nymphed north of the A40, got 2 fish around pound each on a Caddis nymph.
Nymphed my way back down to the Cynrig without success.
Made a warming brew on my Kelly Kettle and whilst enjoying it saw the odd fish rising. Put on an Olive emerger and got into a seam of rising fish against the left bank. Caught 3, missed 3. All around a pound.
Moved down to the bottom pool by the style, saw a couple of fish rising but in difficult to reach spots, no luck.
Returned to car around 3pm, just about to take my waders off when I saw a fish rising. Caught a 1.5lbs fish on the Olive merger.
All fish were very hard fighting, all returned .
