My first time on this beat and I was delighted to see rising fish from the off. With the river really low and clear I was assisted with some cloud cover until mid afternoon and ended up with 8 fish.
The highlight was 2 beautifull fish taken on consecutive casts and both a fraction under 20". All fish taken on small dries with 15` leader.

Marvellous day on a long beat which is difficult to cover in one day. We went downstream to the small road bridge where it is one bank only fishing. Soon the Grannom were hatching and the fish rising. After a few near misses I tempted a 2 1/2lb to a perkins shuttlecock olive (bought a couple of hours earlier at Fishtec). My son had a small trout on a nymph and I managed a half pounder later in the afternoon. This like all usk beats is challenging but well worth the effort if only to catch one lunker.

Caught two trout around 12" in in faster water water below A40 bridge and picked up about 6 smaller fish throughout day; all to small gold headed nymphs except one to purple spider. Minimal hatch and no fish showing at all. Report book at the fishery detailed some good sized fish have been caught and would come back to try again.

An interesting day, spent the morning searching for fish with no avail until I switched to summer tactics then I had six fish from one run in quick succession. The best of which measured 22-24 inches. Over the course of the day I had another couple of fish.
No hatch to speak of all day and I did not see a fish rise.

A difficult day with the wind. Very little in the way of sustained hatches. A few dark olives around midday and that was it. No fish rising. Fished nymphs in deep water most of the day. Missed two very subtle takes. No fish to the net. Lovely beat, but just wasn't to be today!

None caught but one large and powerful trout lost after three 20 metre runs. Hooked at 1210pm on a dry Parachute Adams at the start of a sparse and short-lived olive hatch.
Air temperature 17C, water temp 8/9C. Sunny, cloudless sky, light east breeze. River low and clear. Decision to use light leader with nymph suspended from dry fly cost me the big trout as nymph probably snagged a rock (both flies were broken off)- you live and learn!! Disappointingly, in view of warm air conditions, very little activity from flies and fish for most of day.
Again, many thanks to the Foundation for a highly efficient and friendly booking service !!

An early morning frost resulted in a very sparse LDO and march brown hatch, and consequently very little fish activity (only saw one rise all day). The river was very low and clear for March, and the bright sunshine meant that the trout probably saw me coming from a mile off. I tried a variety of nymphs, spiders and dries but no fish caught. The catch return book mentioned 1.5-2 lb trout being caught on PTNs the week before so the fish are definitely feeding. This is a lovely beat, with easy wading and some nice riffles and glides. I plan to return later in the season when there's a bit more water in the river. N.B. I saw a mink on the opposite bank, just downstream from where the Cynrig joins the Usk.
