Worked hard for my 2 lovely trout, one on the dry and one on 'yellow-bodied' nymph. Blue skies and strong sunshine didn't help the fishing but certainly made for a very pleasant day.

Very bright and still. Beaded nymph early on, then CDC olive emerger. I seemed to excel at losing fish today.

I started at 10.30am and a very sparse trickle hatch of LDOs started. It never really got going but the fish were picking off the few flies that were on the water. A cold and strong downstream wind made casting and presentation difficult as well as ensuring that few flies stayed on the surface for very long. I managed a few in the bridge pool then went up the top and had some fun with spiders. At about 3pm there was a moderate hatch of March Browns that lasted for maybe 20 minutes and the fish obliged. Within my tally for the day were 4 fish over the pound, the best going a pound and a half.

Water high and clear, and a stiff downstream breeze. More fish lost than caught, but managed to secure 3 nice fish all caught with small weighted nymphs in fast water. All safely returned.

No fish caught, very bright sunshinw and very clear shallow water. Sadly I cam across three fish head that had been cut off most likely by a knive. Only one of these fish would have been big enough for catch and kill and much better if the person or persons resposible took their waste home rather then leave them to rot in the river.

My first time on this beat and a lot of new water to cover. Fished from bottom to top and eventually found some fish in a fast riffle. Landed 7 but missed as many takes again. All fish taken on French leader tactics as I didn't see more than a couple of rises during the day.

One note of caution - the report from the previous day referred to some poaching activity. Whilst sitting down enjoying my lunch I saw a guy approach from the upstream end carrying a rod. As soon as I stood up intending to introduce myself he turned foot and walked away at speed. Rather suspicious !

The river looked in great shape, a foot on the Brecon gauge and a nice bit of colour. I fished from 2pm to 7.30. Very few fish moved during the day but I had two nice trout on a weighted shrimp pattern fished dead drift - one fish was about a pound, the other 1 1/2 pounds. I fished the single-hander for salmon for a while without an offer. I was diverted in the afternoon by a small bat which was catching flies in the sunshine along with the swallows and martins, and spent the best part of an hour trying to get a sharp picture of it. I was also diverted by a brace of poachers who pretended they didn't know the beat was private - I photographed them too, which was much easier. Report submitted.
