Tough fishing, river still low and bright sun all day. 4 brown Trout netted, 2 came up to a dry and 2 on a nymph long leader.

Water extremely low, of course. All four fish were caught during a lovely 20-minute spell between 8 and 9pm, on downstream nymph. They were only between 6 and 8oz; hooked one that felt bigger, but could get him into the net.

River very low,...fish spooked easy,...lovely beat, easy wading and access to river all away along,a lot of flat water which with Such low flow were pointless fishing.
Plenty of fish moving but only one on the dry, one on the clink and dink ( nymph ) and rest on tungsten bugs / French leader.
Short beat , 2 anglers would be a overkill .
The only negative about this beat is the price of £28.

My father caught one nice trout from a fast riffle, but i was struggling to connect. I believe the majority of this fish were in the top pool of this beat. The pool's wooded sides make casting difficult if not impossible. I needed a hand out of the mud right at the top. It sucked the sole right off my wading boot.

Maybe I should have spent more time fishing where the fish were, rather than where I wanted them to be. Sitting motionless and waiting for a fish to come in range and somehow dangle a fly in front of it would possibly be a winning technique, but is far from what I’d consider fly fishing.

My GRHE nymph wasn’t interesting any trout today, but the shoals of minnows swarmed around it like piranhas, gamely attacking a prey huge relative to their body size.

Maybe there is a way to avoid them blank? Yes, I’m going there. I tied on my smallest, barbless hare’s ear, and dangled it at my feet. The tiny fish swarmed around it until one appeared which was big enough to take the fly in its mouth. I’d intentionally targeted a fish whose name is a synonym for small in the English language. Still, blank avoided and a new species for me. And I’m not even sorry.
