So hot! I didn't hold out much hope of catching, which was the case. One solitary dog chub and not a sign of barbel. Fished the faster water at the end of the beat and then later on back towards to woods. Started at about 3pm but packed up at 8pm, I just had that feeling nothing was going to happen apart from heat exhaustion. Nice hill climb at the end to get the blood pumping. It is a lovely looking place.

Tough day, river was at normal summer level but water was dark brown. Did not arrive until midday it was raining .Fish caught within an hour of arriving from about halfway up the beat, the rain went off & the sun came & the fish disappeared . Quite a few swims have been made in the lower two fields however the banks are very steep & great care is needed. The main problem was the amount of thin stranded weed that instantly wrapped around the feeder & hookbait , have never seen it this bad before. On another note the parking area is conned off at the moment due to foresty work, not sure where else you could park, managed to squeeze in on the end, would be a problem if more than one car needed to park there. Fish were caught on pellet & feeder tactics, lovley to be back on the wye again.

Beautiful beat, but very difficult to get to the water. A blank today, not even a bite from the one swim I could fish, most swims are very steep and you are still four foot from the water. The water was low and full of weed(algae) which was attached every time I reeled in.
Lovely location but won't be rushing back unfortunately.

Whilst in the lay-by getting gear out of the car, another car stopped and the welsh driver asked if we were fishing here today. When we said yes, he said he had been planning to fish it for pike but, if we were fishing it he would go elsewhere. It was quite clear from his knowledge on the beat that he fished it fairly regularly. Later during the day, someone else started fishing at the bottom end of the beat, they packed up and moved on when they saw us. Seems like this beat is well fished but not by people who have paid their money to Wye Usk. Perhaps a bit more policing would be in order.

Arrived to find river flowing fast, coloured and pouring with rain. After finding a place where I could clamber down to the rivers edge it turned out to be a great days fishing. Rain stopped, sun came out for a while and I caught 6 Barbel, smallest 6lb, largest 8lb and the rest 7-7.5lbs and a 3lb Chub all on either Elips pellets or luncheon meat. Nick who I was fishing with also caught a Barbel and an Eel, can't wait to get back again.
