Accompanied by dark clouds and persistent light rain we arrived at Foy Bridge with limited hope....A quick glance from the bridge endorsed our view fishing was going to be somewhat testing!! But after making the long journey we were happy to be on the river and give it a try.
Not much success but two fish caught...One of us captured a beautiful Wye Barbel weighing 6.10 but sadly this angler only managed a humble small Dace. The Barbel fell to hair rigged pellet in fading light and brightened considerably a damp November day.

Arrived geared up to try for the barbel - but conditions were not promising; river very low and extremely clear. Managed to sight chub between the streamer weed runs and touch legered cheese paste; with some stealth and perseverance managed to bag a couple.

Fished bottom pool on left bank, water was low and clear which made fishing difficult, no success with feeder & pellets but managed a single chub about 2.5lbs on float fished maggots. I was then joined by a large flock of 100+ Canadian Geese that decided to land on this small stretch of river for lunch. I left before the geese did

Very low and clear water, plus sunny day didn't work for us. Just few bites and two chub after 5 pm, that's all.

Two of us fished the Foy Bridge stretch for first time on 12th & 13th. Both days suffered from very cold nights and bright & windy days. Fish very scarce although best on the Monday. Road side swims looked the best and the biggest chub at about 3 pounds came from the end swim at 6pm on meat. Most of the smaller chub and half a dozen gudgeon on maggots. Dave had the only fish on Tuesday - two Grayling and a small Par all on maggots from the first swim across the bridge. Very envious as I have never caught a Grayling!! Need to come more often as the Wye takes some getting used to. Beautiful setting - watched what I think were Buzzards wheeling around the sky screeching.
Stayed at The Coach House nearby for B&B - very comfortable and friendly. The owner, Iola even made us some ham & cheese rolls for our lunch! Pity we didn't meet Mr Barbel!
