Early morning start and by midday with nothing showing was beginning to think it was going to be another normal fishless day. Then - just as my mate popped down on a quick visit a fish takes (red flying c). Had to hang on and let it take line for a while. Eventually the fish tires and then we realised that it would not fit into my 24 inch Gye net. My mate jumped in and managed to lift the fish out. 40 inches of mighty Wye springer with a real deep body. Later in the day (7.30pm) another take and another big fish is on. It was certainly a similar size to the first (if not bigger). Could not beleive it when after about 10 minutes the hook pulls out - talk about being gutted. Thanks to AT who was also fishing the beat for standing by with the net. Hope you connect with something similar on your next visit.

The river looked in a bit better nick after the little rain and snow further up earlier in the week. Had three more kelts all long fish. Fished on Sunday as well and had another kelt. Watched CP lose a big fish after it was almost at the net, had to be 20lb plus. Many thanks to him for his help and advice.

The water was low and a bitter wind blowing downstream...after an hour of hard fishing I said "Mr Pashley find me a fish!" and as the words left my mouth I had that heart stopping double knock of a take. I think Mr Pashley had a wry sense of humour as it turned out to be a lovely Pike of some 15lbs! (great sport on a 7ft spinning rod).

Baking hot day brought out plenty of kayaks and sent the salmon deep into the pools. The owner, Don, was there at the beginning of the day to show me the beat and highlight the best taking spots. Plenty of great advice and a devoted, passionate river man. Just one fish to report, a two and a half pound barbel on a stoats tail fly.
The deep Courtfield pools had the occasional big salmon showing and I am sure you would have tempted one with a spinner. As I only fished the fly Don kindly let me fish the Wyebank beat which is superb fly water but the bright sunshine only highlighted the beauty of the countryside and the wildlife....there was after all only so much Don could do!

No fish caught. After about an hour canoes started coming down the river and all chance of catching anything disappeared! Don was very useful and helped finding the right lies etc. A lovely place to fish.

A wonderful morning fishing! Birds singing in the warm spring air and a very large, well mended kelt about 11am. Thanks to Don and Adam for the fishing chat.
