The last day of my break in Wales and a much anticipated day.
Access to enter the water under the bridge is a clamber over a locked gate and good steps down to the water.
Difficult wading over boulders and wading upstream (even with a stick) looked too much of a challenge so I walked the right bank downstream with a plan to enter the water but could not find access .
Walked the left bank upstream from the fishing hut for a spell, same result so disappointed, I decided to call it a day and return home. I am not sure that the description of the river having 'relatively easy wading over gravel' is entirely accurate.

Lovely day great weather and company. The owner is very generous with his knowledge. Really important to listen to him, the beat needed a bit more water but the lies he identified would obviously hold a fish. Saw the largest brown trout I've ever seen in the shallows must have been over 4 pounds. Also saw a great crested woodpecker and (I know ill be told otherwise) but I'm sure I saw a pine martin chasing a squirrel! Great day

Having only fished a river once with a guide (Dinas) this was my first foray on my own. To cut a long story short I caught ….. nothing! ???? I did see a couple of fish rising but not very many at even through there was quite a lot of insect life from about 1pm onwards. I’m sure my inexperience didn’t help.
The beat itself is really nice. Some of the entry points to the river can be quite steep and need to negotiated with some caution. Also I was thankful that I had taken a wading staff as I find this very helpful.
I’m sure a more experienced angler would have had more success but I can quite safely say the 300 mile round trip was worth it and I’ll be back to the Usk

Fished from 1900 till dusk in fine conditionsand water .63m.
No fish contacted fishing wet haresear nymph.
Rise began 8.30 so switched to dry wulffand hooked 3 sizeable trout fishing upstream at upper rock.
All fish put up a great fight but all detached, disappointingly. Fished till 21.30 when rise ended
