Water 0.6m and coloured but fining down. Fished for Salmon at all the regular spots but did not catch. Very sparse trout rise probably due to the colour. Fished until the heavens opened at around 15.30. Decided to pack in as water would colour up again quickly with this persistent rain.

A perfect day for fishing, some sun, cloud and rain. River level could have been a little higher at .6m. Fished the top pools on the caravan side with the fly. Salmon spotted as usual at submerged tree. Took spinning rod to fish below bridge where I managed to spook two huge salmon; one above the cables and one below. Still trying to get into my skin two days later. Was like yard long logs dropped from 20 paces, wow! Stealth - the salmon lie along this bank. Shad also present. Returned one trout to the spinner. Great day with great company, one to remember.

First time on this beat, enjoyed the day immensely. Fished for both salmon and trout but without success.
Wading can be a little tricky to the un-initiated, underfoot conditions predominated by biggish rocks and boulders. Wading the lower pools not possible or extremely difficult, steep sided banks and muddy bottom - to be avoided
Water height was at a decent level (as informed by the owner) running fairly briskly in shallower areas.

The Usk was a good height for the fly but quite coloured.
Several trout (returned) took a Stoats Tail and there was a much more significant take just above the caravan site, which could have been a salmon but it wasn't on long enough to confirm.
This beat is well maintained and a pleasure to fish.

Fished on Wednesday afternoon till dark and Thursday untill 3pm. Lost a shad to a barbless spinner at Upper Rocks. The water here is fast flowing with deep pots. Just above The Rock Pool I had a follow from a decent trout on the spinner. On the fly, had several plucks, trout I assume. At summer level I still got the fly to fish nicely at Wood Stream from the right bank. Next time I will try from the hut side, easier I think because of the steps at the top of the run here. There is deep water on the right bank as you approach the bridge. Met "Day Rods" who had caught shad in the previous week and were catching good bags of trout at dusk on size 18 grey dusters; was kindly given some. Finally, had a BBQ on Wednesday by the hut with work colleages. Welsh Spring Lamb, mmm!
