The beauty of booking in advance! I did intend for a late season barbel session as temperatures seemed mild. Fast forward a few weeks and the "arctic blast" certainly had something to say about that. The river was up 5ft on arrival and slowly dropped as the day went on. This really is a beautiful stretch of the Wye and during the mornings snowstorm it looked magical. I opted to spend most of my time targeting pike close in at the bottom end of the stretch. A few hours were spent trying to tempt a barbel by giving different pegs 20 mins but to no avail. Late afternoon I started to get pestered by eels who shredded my Deadbait within 20 minutes of it entering the water and the one other was a small 1lb eel. It saved the blank.

Not the outcome I was after but the conditions were stacked against me. A very beautiful stretch that I'll certainly try again and hopefully I'll do better then!

Late start for me, but river running nice and clear.

Persevered on float for most of the day, catching a few smaller fish.

We switched to maggot feeder late in the day and then it was a bite every cast.

I suffered my first ever blank day on the Wye. Conditions looked spot on but for me the fish did not want to play. Yesterday at Middle Hill Court I had numerous knocks pulls and twitches, but today, nothing at all in any of the three swims I tried. Much the same for my mate . He tried 3 swims as well, catching in the last swim he tried. A chublet and a barbel of around 9lb late afternoon. Pellets were the going bait today.

Dry and overcast conditions. River running fairly clear and low for the time of year. Tried a bit of piking and lost one low double at the net first thing but no other takes.
Chub we’re feeding well on a mixture of baits but mainly maggot feeder and trotted meat. Had a couple over 4lb but most 2-3lb. We lost one Barbel each, one on the float and one on the feeder to hook pulls but they were reluctant feeders today.
Had a bonus Sea Trout trotting. A really nice day again on this beautiful beat.
