River up and coloured from previous day's torrential rain, which was an improvement on previous low levels. Masses of debris made it impossible to fish beyond the near margins for most of the day before clearing late afternoon. Found quality barbel up to 8.5 pounds in one swim, plus the unusual feat of foul hooking two eels (both safely returned).

Extra water in river and lightly coloured, expectations high! However, despite a promising 5lber within 10 minutes, general expectations were not met. That said as usual a day on the Wye is always enjoyable and this was no different. 3 fish of decent size also lost, two to snags and one totally smashing the rig.
Some movement of anglers on opposite bank and we did wonder if we were going to be bothered by them fishing opposite but despite a few looks at the beats they all moved on, thankfully.

Fished there 21 June, pleasant day. 8 Aug, perfect conditions, not a touch till 6.30pm. Just 2 chub between then and 8pm. Not every day the same, it will not stop me trying again!

Fished dawn til dusk in four promising looking swims with not so much as a bite. All swims look very well used and came to the conclusion fish must have moved downstream into deeper inaccessible swims. Will be back in the Autumn to try again.

After overnight rain it turned out to be a sunny day. The river was very low and fishing was slow. My son didn't fish due to illness so it was one rod only. I had one barbel 7-8lbs and lost two more, of which one was a very good fish. Unfortunately and unusually the hook pulled. I have fished here before and caught well but I think the current conditions are affecting the fishing rather than a lack of fish. *t was an enjoyable afternoon/evening in a great location. One suggestion is that the parking is very limited and maybe some hard standing could be created in the field entrance, as in wet weather parking is very risky indeed. This would be helpful, but thanks again to the Wye Usk Foundation.

WUF note - There is also a lower parking area whioch is marked on the map and can be used in adverse conditions.

Didn't set the world on fire with a huge bag of fish but a really enjoyable day as always on this delightful stretch. Had chub taking bread off the top which was fun. The 1lb eel on pellet was less entertaining!! First time I've seen coarse anglers on the far bank of this water which was a bit of a disappointment as it restricted access to some swims.
Managed to leave my chair in the middle car parking area in the field so if anyone finds it I'd appreciate an e mail via Wye and Usk.

Arrived at 11.00 a.m. to find 2 anglers fishing a shingle bank on the far side, casting over to How Caple side, making one swim unfishable.
Opted for the 2 swims either side of the unfishable one, and for the third day tried all sorts of tactics and baits, which eventually yielded a bite at 4.45, but no fish. Thankfully packed the factor 30. 3 days, nearly 60 combined hours of fishing for 4 fish (no barbel), what is the attraction of the River Wye? We will be back, after a spot of rain and a bit of cloud cover.
Couldn't work out where all the swims have been cut out, we counted perhaps 8 or 9?
